街のひまわり畑｜Sunflower Field in Town｜2022/08/05

五反田駅前の交差点の隅にちょっとした空き地がある。この季節になるとひまわり畑になって太陽に向かって元気よく花を咲かせる。山手線に乗っているとちょうど見え、また暑い夏がやってきたなぁと思う。そういえば小学１年生は朝顔、２年生はひまわりを夏に育てた。４０日の夏休みに入った時のワクワク、お盆を過ぎた時の寂しさと宿題が間に合わないという焦り。毎朝ラジオ体操に通い、花火大会や海水浴に心ときめかせた。品川駅で新幹線に乗り換え現実に戻るのだが、毎年このひまわりのお陰で懐かしいひと時になる。（絵と文：サカキテツ朗）

There is a small vacant lot in the corner of the intersection in front of Gotanda Station. In this season, it becomes a sunflower field and blooms energetically toward the sun. I can see it when I'm on the Yamanote Line, and I think that the hot summer has come again. I remember that the first grader grew morning glories, and the second grader grew sunflowers in the summer. I also got the excitement when summer vacation began on the 40 days, the loneliness after Obon, and the impatience of not doing my homework in time. Every morning, I went to radio gymnastics, and was excited by the fireworks display and sea bathing. At Shinagawa Station, I change to the Shinkansen and return to reality, but every year the sunflowers make me feel nostalgic. -Text and illustration by Ted Sakaki
