At the end of Fitz #1, Fitz had lost his first 11 court-martials during his first week on base. Fitz is looking for a win. Fitz is convinced that he can win his next trial based upon the affirmative defense of coercion, none of which he has revealed to the Prosecution Wing. It is payback time for "CAPTAIN MOTHERFUCKER" (Capt. Murphy, the head of the Prosecution Wing, who had taken advantage of Fitz's lack of experience during four separate race riot trials the week before). No one understands what Fitz is up to, for his defense effort in United States v. Marley on that Monday morning – because Fitz has a new mantra ("FUCK THE PROSECUTORS – TELL THEM NOTHING" ). Fitz surprises Capt. Murphy with coercion facts that were never investigated by the Prosecution Wing or the Naval Investigative Services (NIS) – when Fitz's clients (Cpl. Marley and PFC Dolan) were arrested on the night of the riot, simply because they were young Black Marines who were in the wrong place at the wrong time. Fitz surprises everyone by requesting a jury trial on that Monday morning – because Fitz no longer trusts the military judges to do the right thing as to the issues of guilt or innocence – or as to a fair sentence. The military jury responds with a complete acquittal of Cpl. Marley and PFC Dolan on all charges. Moreover, during the course of the trial, it becomes clear that there were numerous young Black Marines who were coerced by Cpl. Jordan, who led the raid on the bigoted NCOs that evening – who never wanted to be part of that attack. Immediately following that all-day court-martial, on that same Monday evening, Fitz is scheduled to face his executive officer (Maj. Smith) in a "grudge match" boxing event that had been scheduled by Fitz's commanding officer (Col. Jones), after Fitz had unknowingly spent his first weekend at his new duty station in bed with his XO's love interest off base (the lovely Yuasan, who owns three separate gentlemen clubs and the buildings in which they are located, right outside the main gate of MCAS Iwakuni). That prior Friday evening, the younger Marine prosecutors had intentionally introduced Fitz to the XO's woman, so that Fitz would spend the weekend with Yuasan, angering Maj. Smith – who would then take out all of his frustration on Fitz, the hated duty squid who had been assigned to their Law Center. Despite the fact that everyone believed that Fitz would be trashed during the boxing match against Maj. Smith (who was on the MCAS Iwakuni boxing team), Fitz somehow prevails by causing Maj. Smith to suffer a serious shoulder injury. Even though Fitz is several years younger than her, Yuasan quickly determines, during almost constant sex that weekend with Fitz, that Fitz is the guy she has been searching for. Fitz moves in with Yuasan on Sunday – telling Fitz how to survive his XO. When Fitz somehow prevails against Maj. Smith, and is brought back to Yuasan by her adopted father, Yuasan becomes convinced that Fitz is "the one," taking Fitz to Hiroshima for a three-day getaway that was ordered by Col. Jones to get Fitz away from the Law Center, before the Marine Corps' Commandant arrived the next morning to discuss the recent race riot. Fitz #2 starts with the developing relationship between Fitz and Yuasan, who is sinking her hooks deeply into Fitz because of what Fitz represents: the chance to finally raise a family with a young man who does not have any preexisting attachments. Having determined that Fitz could be her "last shot" to raise a family, Yuasan is literally all over Fitz every evening at her home, while Fitz is trying court-martials every day at the Law Center. Fitz wins United States v. Brown on the same coercion affirmative defense, as well as the next five jury trials on the same issue – while Fitz is preparing for his biggest court-martial yet, United States v. Johnson, which will require interviewing witnesses in Thailand. Before Fitz leaves for his five-day trip away from Yuasan, she is doing everything she can to "seal the deal." Fitz is falling further down "Yuasan's rabbit hole" – soon realizing how much Yuasan needs Fitz in her life, because of the horrific childhood that Yuasan experienced when she had lost her real parents by age four – being placed in numerous orphanages until she escaped at age 15 – living on the streets, before she got involved in the prostitution industry, because she had no other options.
