静かな人気もの、カバ｜Unknown Celebrity, Hippotamus

ムスメを連れて上野動物園に行った。トラ、ゾウ、キリンに大喜びすると思っていたら、ふうーんという感じで反応が薄い。どちらかと言うと親の方が、ゾウさんの耳は大きいねー、キリンさんは首が長いねーと喜んでる。しかしカバに反応した。たまに鼻だけを出して呼吸をする以外水に浸かって全く動かない。どこが面白いのかわからないけど、他の動物を見に行こうと言っても、カバさんがいいという。よく見ると他の子どもたちもじっとカバを見つめている。子どもゴコロはわからない。（絵と文：サカキテツ朗）

I took my daughter to Ueno Zoo. I thought she would be overjoyed by the tigers, elephants, and giraffes, but there was little response. The parents were happy when they said that the elephant has big ears and the giraffe has a long neck. And she reacted at the hippopotamus. It didn't move at all when submerged in water except for occasionally breathing with its nose out. I didn't know what was so interesting about it, but when I told my daughter to go see other animals, she said she wanted to see it. WhenI looked closely, other children were also staring at the hippopotamus. I don't understand the child's taste. -Text and illustration by Ted Sakaki
