Nadia Murad Basee Taha (born in 1993) is an Iraqi Human Rights Activist from Kojo, Iraq. For three months, she was kidnapped and held captive by the Islamic State. Nadia recently won the Nobel Peace Prize by the Norwegian Nobel Committee. Furthermore, the activist shares this honor with the Denis Mukwege. He is a Congolese gynecologist and founder of Panzi Hospital.
In addition, Murad’s efforts to end the use of sexual violence were the reason for her achievement. She is also the founder of founder of Nadia’s Initiative. The organization helps in rebuilding the lives of women and children who were the victims of human trafficking.

When Murad was just 21-year-old, Islamic State fighters attacked in her Yazidi community in the village. Moreover, they killed almost 600 people including activist’s six brothers and half-brothers.
Later, the terrorists took the younger women into the slavery. Nadia was also one of more than 6,700 Yazidi women who was taken as prisoners by Islamic State fighters. The 25-year-old activist was raped multiple time, burned with cigarettes, and beaten. They were held in the city of Mosul.
