The students were attending the annual March for Life. They were from Covington Catholic High School (CovCath), who traveled from Kentucky to visit the anti-abortion March for Life. In addition, Philips walked towards them and began to chant the AIM Song (a traditional Native American inter-tribal powwow song).
Shortly after the video went viral, CovCath’s communications director released a statement. He/She regretted that the incident took place. Later, on January 19, 2019, the black-haired student released a statement stating that the students were confronted by 4 members of the Black Hebrew Israelite movement.
He also said that Phillips tried to provoke them. They never sang “build the wall” or used any racist language or gestures according to him. However, Phillips told that he heard them saying “Build that wall! Build that wall!”.
