Mark Fields was born on January 24, 1961, in New York City to his parents Gerald S. Fields who was a purchasing manager and Elinor Fields. The original name of Fields family was Finkelman.

He grew up in Paramus, New Jersey, where he completed his schooling from Paramus High School. He got graduated with a bachelor’s degree in economics from Rutgers University and holds a master of business administration from the Harvard Business School.
