"TAKASHI KITAMI’S MAGICAL MYSTERIOUS BOOK ILLUSTRATIONS"
========
Jiro Akagawa, Aya Imamura, Riku Onda, Ramo Nakajima, Ichi Orihara, Yasumi Tsuhara...
That excitement was with this picture――
A definitive edition collection of about 400 illustrations from Takashi Kitami's 40-year book design!
“I will continue to seek the ideal novels and books that should be written someday, and which should be made someday.
That is surely the same for us, authors, and book designers.”
--From Riku Onda's "Pale Crimson Shadows in March" (commentary)
========
It was 1981 when I was first in charge of book design for Jiro Akagawa.
Takashi Kitami has worked on the cover art of many mystery novels and foreign literature, and has invited many readers to the story world.
The fantastic and mysterious essence unique to Kitami continues to fascinate writers and readers.
This book is the definitive edition of the art collection that Kitami himself compiled and designed the huge amount of work!
========
Most of my cover illustration work is for mystery novels.
Perhaps my writing style and mystery novels were a good match.
It can be said that the paintings here would not have been born without stories, and my style may have been nurtured by the stories of many artists.
When illustration is freed from its original role of "introduction to the story", will it be possible for it to take on a life of its own as an attractive picture?
It was also from such a feeling that I gave the title "Illusions of Books".
