EAT, DRINK, AND BE MERRY!

Hi everybody!
Interestingly “merry” is a word that isn`t used often in modern English except at Christmas time in the phrase “Merry Christmas” but in older books it was quite popular so it`s an old-fashioned word. “Merry Christmas” の “merry” って現在、クリスマスの時期以外はほとんど使われてない単語なんですが昔(19世紀まで位かな？）の小説などでよく出てくるのでやっぱり merryって昔はよく使われてたでしょう。
さあ、merryってどういう意味のでしょうか・・・？？？
merry = happy; fun; 元気; にぎやか; 楽しい; ワクワクの気分
・Let`s eat, drink, and be merry! (食べたり飲んだり楽しんだりしよう！)
▼Here is an example conversation:
旅行の前:
A) What are you gonna do in the Philippines? (フィリピンで何をするの？)
B) I`m gonna relax all day every day on the beach and every night I`m gonna eat, drink, and be merry! (毎日夕方までビーチでくつろいだりして毎晩食べたり飲んだり楽しんだりするよ！)
A) Sounds nice! (いいね！)
ということで、現在は “merry” ってクリスマスの言葉になってるんだけどまだ “eat, drink, and be merry” っていう言い回しはまだ一年中よく使われてます。
