Look Right, Look Left

Hong Kong is rational. One of them is pedestrian crossing. Cars in Hong Kong drive at full speed even in narrow alleys. If there is even a small gap, a car will run into it. It's a frightening situation. However, pedestrian crossings are well designed. Look Right and Look Left are written on the roadway, with arrows indicating which direction the car is coming from. Whether the light is green or red, as long as you look in the direction of the arrow, you can easily see if a car is coming or not. When you go abroad, you may not know whether cars are driving on the right or left side of the road, and it is even more confusing when there is a one-way street. The method of writing on the roadway as it is is excellent, probably as a countermeasure against the high number of traffic accidents. It is not a warning or a logo mark, but rather an indication of what should be done. I guess it is effective because it does not require the installation of equipment and costs can be reduced. -Text and illustration by Ted Sakaki
