「松濤園・立花氏庭園」（別の回で詳しく紹介しています）は、旧柳川藩主・立花氏が経営するホテル「御花（おはな）」にあり、一般に公開されているエリア以外に、宿泊しなければ見ることができない庭園景観があります。2023年の時点では、宿泊できる唯一の国指定名勝庭園です。一般に公開されているのは松濤園の敷地は西側半分のみで、東側のエリアは、料亭「集景亭・しゅうけいてい」の利用者か「ホテル御花」の宿泊者しか見学することはできません。「集景亭」は明治時代に立花伯爵家の人々が居室としていた和風建築で、現在は料亭の個室となっており部屋ごとに大きさや設えが異なり、見える庭の景色も異なります。この「集景亭」は一般公開されている「大広間」と渡り廊下でつながっています。しかし集景亭への扉の先は料亭＆ホテルエリアのため一般の見学者は立ち入りできないのです。その一般公開されている大広間に関してもホテルの宿泊者は夜１１時まで入室可能で一般の見学者が見ることができない夜間ライトアップされた庭を心ゆくまで満喫、また、翌午前６時から朝の静寂に包まれた庭を楽しむこともできます。ホテル客室には珍しくテラス付きの部屋があり、オープンエアで庭を上から眺めることもできます。くわえて、松濤園と塀で仕切られたさらに東のエリアは同じく国指定名勝の東庭園となっており宿泊者はこちらも見学できます。東庭園は芝生広場・テニスコート・花園そして直線的な護岸をもつ池で構成された西洋的な庭園です。実はこの庭園は立花家が盆の祭礼行事で祖先の霊を祀る船を池に浮かべてあの世へ送るために欠かせない場所。立花家は日本の旧大名家としては珍しく東京ではなく地元に居住し続けています。この行事は旧藩主・立花家の人々と、かって柳川藩につかえた地元の旧藩士子孫たちとの大切な交流の場ともなっているのです。このような伝統行事とともに庭園や建築が複合的に保存されていることが「松濤園・立花氏庭園」の歴史的価値を高めているのです。松濤園・東庭園ともに柳川市中を縦横にはしる掘割に面しており、観光客を乗せ地元の民謡を歌う船頭があやつるドンコ船が水の上をゆっくりと進んでゆく様子を庭園やホテル客室からも見ることができます。東庭園から堀に架けられた木橋の上で地よい風に吹かれながら水面に美しい影を落とす松を眺めていると掘割が柳川全体を庭園的景観をもたらしていることがよくわかります。東庭園の堀の護岸には賓客の迎賓門となる船着き場も設けられており堀が柳川の人々の暮らしにいかに大切なものであったかを現代に伝えています。柳川の掘と松濤園は一体なのです。

"Shotoen/Tachibana Garden" (introduced in detail elsewhere) is located in the hotel "Ohana" run by Mr. Tachibana, the former lord of the Yanagawa domain. There is a garden view that cannot be seen unless you stay overnight. As of 2023, it will be the only nationally designated scenic garden where you can stay overnight.

Only the west side of Shotoen grounds is open to the public, and the east side can only be visited by guests of the restaurant "Shukei tei" or guests of Hotel Ohana.

"Shukei tei" is a Japanese-style building that was the residence of the Tachibana family, who became counts when the samurai class disappeared in the Meiji period. It is now the dining room of a Japanese restaurant "Shukei tei", and each room has a different view of the garden. The Ohiroma, which is the largest building in Shotoen located on the west side of this "Shukei tei", is open to the public until the evening, but only hotel guests can enter until 11:00 pm and enjoy the garden illuminated at night. You can enjoy up to The next morning, you can also see the garden enveloped in silence early in the morning before it opens to the public.

There are rooms with a terrace, which is rare in the hotel rooms, and you can also look at the garden in the open air.

In the eastern area separated from Shotoen by a wall, there is the Eastern Garden, which is a nationally designated scenic spot like Shotoen, and can be visited by hotel guests. The Eastern garden is a Western garden consisting of a lawn square, tennis court, flower garden, and a pond with a straight bank protection.

In fact, the pond in the Eastern Garden is an important place for the Tachibana family. Former Japanese feudal lords live in Tokyo, except for the Tachibana family. The Tachibana family continues to live in their hometown, where they were feudal lords, rather than in Tokyo.

Every summer, the Tachibana family holds a Bon festival to honor their ancestors. They set the boats they made for their ancestors in the pond in the Eastern Garden, set them on fire, and sent them to heaven. This traditional festival event also serves as a place for interaction between the former feudal lords, the Tachibana family, and the descendants of former feudal retainers who served the Yanagawa domain during the Edo period. The complex preservation of gardens and architecture along with such traditional events enhances the historical value of this place.

Both Shotoen Garden and Eastern Garden face a canal that crisscrosses the city of Yanagawa. You can see it from your hotel room. If you look at the pine trees that cast beautiful shadows on the surface of the water while being blown by the gentle breeze on the wooden bridge over the moat, you can clearly see that the moat creates a garden-like landscape throughout Yanagawa. In the eastern garden moat protection, there is a dock at the reception gate for the highest honored guests.
