下垂体後葉から分泌される神経伝達物質であるオキシトシン。末梢組織で働くホルモンでもある。女性の分娩、出産に関与するが男性にも影響はある。中枢神経、心臓、腎臓、膵臓、胸腺、脂肪細胞でもオキシトシンが発現している。

ニューロンからオキシトシンが分泌され近隣や受容体が感知して更に合成し、そのポジティブフィードバックによって更に合成され、一定量になると前駆体として視床下部から下垂体後葉へ分泌され、下垂体後葉に刺激が伝わると血中に放出される。

このオキシトシンは別名幸せホルモンと呼ばれていてヒトはスキンシップによって分泌させる事ができる。スキンシップ以外では(実際に会っての)会話でも分泌させる。

オキシトシンが一定量に達した状態は一種の麻薬を常用している状態と類似していると思う。帰ってからの喪失感は正に禁断症状に近い。このオキシトシンdrugは日常生活に支障が出てしまっている。
