"Fugenji Garden" Hikari City, Yamaguchi Prefecture

Fugenji Temple was founded in the Heian period and has long been worshiped as a temple that protects people from maritime disasters. The garden is a dry landscape garden created facing the south of the main hall of Fugenji Temple. The front of the approximately 455 square meter plot of land looks like the sea, with a large standing stone in the center of the background and a dry waterfall stone arrangement arranged vertically and horizontally. This is the apex of the triangular composition of the entire garden. The right stones were placed in the right places on both sides of the Karetaki Iwagumi, and on the left side in particular, there was a horizontally long stone that looked like a warship, which was simply stunning, and the other stones were small and lovely, each with their own individuality. Beautiful things are arranged so you won't get bored of what you see. According to one theory, the garden was created in the late Muromachi period, and is said to have been created by Sesshu. Gardens may have lost their original appearance over time, and may be worth professional restoration.
