現物・対面｜Actual Product in Person

テレビといえばU-NEXTやhuluなどで、ここ数年テレビ番組は久しく見ていなかった。たまたまNHKの「映像の世紀」を見るといい番組だなぁと感心してしまった。テレビ番組はオンデマンドでも見れるものもあるが、著作権の関係で見れないこともある。そのため前から入手したいと思っていたDVDレコーダーをチェックした。録画した番組をスマホで見ることができるのが良さそうだ。WEBサイトをみると安いもので数万円、高額なもので30万円くらいとあり、何が違うのかが全くわからない。さらにどのメーカーがよいかとなると、用語も複雑で比較すらできない。結局ビックカメラに行ってみた。売り場の店員さんに聞くと的確に解説してくれる。ネットで３０分以上調べてもわからなかったことが、わずか３分の店員さんの解説で、ほぼ完璧に理解することができた。ボクにもう少し知識があればネットでリサーチがいいのだろうけど、素人にはやはり現物・対面はありがたいなぁ。（絵と文：サカキテツ朗）

I have not watched TV programs for a long time in the past few years without U-NEXT and hulu. I happened to watch NHK's "The Century of the Moving Image" and was impressed by what a good program it was. Some TV programs are available on demand, but sometimes it is not possible to watch them due to copyright issues. Therefore, I checked out a DVD recorder that I had been wanting to get for a while. The website showed that the cheapest ones cost several tens of thousands of yen and the most expensive ones cost about 300,000 yen, and I had no idea what the difference was. Furthermore, when it came to which manufacturer was better, the terminology was so complicated that I could not even compare them. In the end, I went to Bic Camera. When I asked the sales clerk, he explained exactly what I was looking for. I was able to understand almost perfectly what I could not understand even after more than 30 minutes of research on the Internet in just 3 minutes of explanation by the sales clerk. If I had more knowledge, I would have done my research on the Internet, but for an amateur, it is nice to see the actual product in person. -Text and illustration by Ted Sakaki
