英作文において、名詞を説明する場合、

長い修飾文は名詞の右に展開します。

つまり、

の二箇所です。

There  is／are  のあとに名詞を置いて主語と扱うので、名詞を修飾させて、文を右に広げやすい、長文を書くには使いやすい構文となります。
