La novel·la cavalleresca Curial i Güelfa és, sens dubte, una de les obres més fascinants de la nostra literatura. Al mateix temps, però, va molt més enllà i ens conta també les aventures d'armes i l'ascensió social del jove Curial, protagonista de la novel·la, endinsant-nos en el món de l'edat mitjana, una època en què hi havia cavallers reals que intentaven imitar els herois de les novel·les.
