Borgia será el personaje en el que más tarde Maquiavelo se basará para escribir El Príncipe. Paralelamente a las intrigas políticas, Maquiavelo intenta seducir a la mujer de su anfitrión en Imola, una trama basada en su obra teatral cómica La mandrágora.
