Overview
"Old Scroll Ranger" is a collection of soldier stories about life in the 1st Ranger Battalion during its first three years after activation, from 1974 to 1977 when the battalion was developing into a combat ready unit. It's written in a style to bring back memories for those who were there and describe the life and training in terms those who have never served will understand and appreciate. It provides a glimpse into what South Georgia was like in the mid-seventies and describes the journey of the unit and the youngest men in it growing from fresh faced privates into hardened sergeants in a unit specifically designed to raise the standards of the entire Army after Vietnam. Sometimes funny, sometimes tragic, it captures the adventures and hardships of young men becoming Rangers both on and off duty, in Georgia, the desert, the Artic, Europe and the jungles of Panama. Chris Brewer is a retired Special Forces Officer who spent his first ten years of military service as an NCO in Ranger, Special Forces and Airborne Units. He is a plank holder in the re-activated 1st Ranger Battalion and served as a Ranger Instructor at Ft Benning. He is an OCS graduate with service as an officer in the 82nd Airborne Division, 7th and 1st Special Forces Groups. After retirement he worked as a contractor in a variety of roles and requirements. He served for four years in Afghanistan, three in the UAE, Nigeria, and in the US State Department. He is currently working on books with stories from those adventures, many of which include classified information and require review and approval for release before they can be told. Currently he lives with his family in Georgia. He is a mentor for Rangers leaving service through the Three Rangers Foundation and a consultant for several companies involved in security training and personal protection services.
