「旧田中家別邸 (2)」建築 / 鹿児島県霧島市

海運業で財を成した実業家・田中省三の別邸で、約1,320坪もの敷地に邸宅と庭園がある。関西から職人や技術者を呼び高価な建築材を用いて建てられ大正１１年完成。客室棟、居住棟、蔵、使用人棟などからなる複合型の近代和風住宅。玄関をあがると右手の海側に来客用の洋間がありマントルピース、帝政様式風の漆喰装飾、モダンな窓枠のデザインなどが目を引く。その洋間と連続する畳敷きの部屋は、そのさらに右奥に並ぶ本格的な書院作りの座敷と洋室の中間にあり、和洋２つの客間の「次の間」の役割を果たす。しかしこの次の間と手前の洋間から眺める庭園の景観が庭の正面となっており、当時すでに来客の対応が洋式中心に移行していた事が伺え大変興味深い。玄関から左手の居住部分は近代的な洋風の立ち水屋などが取り入れられているが、全体的には伝統的な数寄屋様式で随所に凝った設えの床の間や網代天井などが見られ圧巻。また欄間彫刻には小堀遠州好みのものが多く旧田中家の茶風が武家のお手前であったことを伺わせる。

“Kyu Tanaka ke Bettei (2) Architecture ” /Kirishima-city Kagoshima-pref

A villa that was completed in Taisho 11 in Kirishima City, Kagoshima Prefecture. It was built by SyozoTanaka, who made a fortune in the shipping industry. He invited excellent carpenters from Kansai to Kagoshima to build this villa. The entire villa has a modern Japanese-style house and a Western-style room with a mantlepiece as a drawing room. In addition, Japanese traditional Sukiya style is abundantly seen in the rooms where family members live. They are made of very luxury construction materials.
