「武蔵塚公園」熊本県熊本市

二刀流の剣豪・宮本武蔵（みやもとむさし）はその晩年を熊本で過ごし62歳の生涯を閉じた。熊本時代は、肥後藩主細川忠利公（ほそかわただとしこう）の客人として招かれ、霊巌洞（れいがんどう）という洞窟で「五輪書」を完成させ、茶や書画の道にあたるなど、文武両道の人生の集大成ともいえる時期を過ごしたといわれている。その死後、墓所が建てられたのが現在の武蔵塚公園と言われている。園内には、ニ刀を携えて立つ武蔵のブロンズ像も置かれ、日本庭園や茶室などもある緑多い静かな公園となっている。

残念なことに日本庭園の池は熊本地震で底にヒビが入り枯池となっている。

"Musashizuka Park" Kumamoto City, Kumamoto Prefecture

The two-sworded swordsman Miyamoto Musashi spent his later years in Kumamoto, passing away at the age of 62. During his time in Kumamoto, he was invited as a guest by Lord Hosokawa Tadatoshi, the lord of Higo Domain, and is said to have spent a period in his life that could be called the culmination of his literary and martial arts career, completing "The Book of Five Rings" in a cave called Reigando, and devoting himself to tea ceremony, calligraphy, and painting. After his death, his grave was built in what is now Musashizuka Park. Within the park, there is a bronze statue of Musashi standing with two swords, and it is a quiet park with lots of greenery, including a Japanese garden and a teahouse.
