O_o its called ~ Thrift shop haha :P cure of sciatica pain this trailer is awesome, and the movie was great as well. I haven't read the novel though. :). This is one of those cases where the film was actually far, far better than the book. The book was written by a man from a largely masculine perspective- the film is the opposite. There are some inaccuracies, but the spirit of the story is kept to more faithfully by the film. And the film makes it clear that it was INSPIRED BY, not TELLING UNADULTERATED, the true story of a woman. This is one of the most beautiful films I have ever seen, and it inspired me to learn more about the floating world. Bravo!.

Duras' book is justly famous because it confronts some painful truths about her and it is unbelievably magnificent when it comes to showing the extremely painful recovery of a former prisoner of war, all of which are basically left out of this film. Too bad; it could have worked better had the director not "sanitized" it for a wider audience that doesn't want to have its beliefs challenged..

And this movie didn't exactly help either. First, she had to live through the book and then this move. This is NOT the real life or real story of the geisha! Before watching this movie or reading the book, read Iwasaki Mineko book, its called 'Geisha, a Life' in the U.S. and 'Geisha of Gion in the U.K.'.

Where can I get the movie I read the book twice I had to laminate each page and the book has more than 1000 pages 😅 and this was like years ago but I can remember some iconic scenes ok I'm prolly sounding like a freak please gimme the link.

Scene on tv when I was little, and always wanted to see the full movie but all I knew about it was that one scene where she exchanges glances with the boy on the bike, years later I finally found this movie! "Memoir Of War" is a woman's picture in the true sense of the term. Women can understand the agony of waiting for their husband or other male relative to return from war, or in this case, from a concentration camp. Waiting and waiting and waiting - for some word, some hope, some encouragement. Daily trips to the train station provide no help as day after day goes by. Melanie Thierry is outstanding as Marguerite, who waits patiently for her husband to return. The war is over and she scans the returnees at the train station each day.

It is not a war picture in the strict sense of the term and there are no battle scenes, or even a fight worth mentioning. It is a character study ... but c'mon. Enough is enough. The film could have used a heavier hand in the cutting room, as it is about 30 minutes too long. I was beginning to hope he would show up dead or alive and end the interminable wait. I base my rating on the caliber of the acting performances, especially Ms. Thierry and Shulamit Adar, who plays a neighbor who comes to stay with her. But for these outstanding performances I would have opted for a six rating.
