Ignore the negative reviews i loved this movie - thought provoking intriguing beautiful and at times haunting proper sci fi in my book give it a go you won't be disappointed

The Beyond
I had a fairly good time with this Science Fiction documentary style drama.
I think mainly due to the commitment of everyone onboard.
Director Hasraf Dulull has managed to craft a decent looking movie from a shoestring budget.
A film rich with bold concepts that are often lost on the audience due to the fact that they aren't each individually developed or explored.
This resulting in a muddled yet rather engaging movie.
I'm sure that Dulull knows what he wants his film to be but it partially gets lost in translation.
The story tells of Extraterrestrial entities that enter our atmosphere and a wormhole that appears above our planet.
The wormhole known as the Void needs to be explored.
Because us humans just can't help ourselves and we need to go poking around.
In order to do this Astronauts need to get an upgrade before taking on such a mission.
The candidates brain is firstly transplanted into a robotic body so that they are able to endure the dangerous journey.
I did say that this movie was rich with concepts!
It's almost like there's several movie pitches here all mixed into a 1hr 43min runtime.
The Beyond is intriguing and rather gripping. Some may complain that this movie is slow but I was enthralled just how the film makers have managed to make a movie look much bigger than its budget would suggest.
Sure there's some disconcerting special effects here and there but it's the photoshopped pictures of the characters that are most laughable.
Wait until you see them and you'll instantly know what I'm referring to.
The documentary style storytelling almost worked but I found it sometimes dwelled on the development of secondary characters and the complexities of fictional technologies rather than just moving the story forward.
Still there's some decent performances from the cast and a twist ending that goes against the grain of usual Science Fiction movies.
Aleah Morrison and Matthew Wilcock have composed a score that has a creepy feel to it, this is sure to keep the audience at unease.
The Beyond isn't Science Fiction at its greatest but it is testament to all those involved that you don't need a squillion dollars to make an engaging movie of this particular genre.
Dulull has borrowed inspiration from many other movies from the genre. Arrival, Robocop, Prometheus and Interstellar spring immediately to mind.
But unlike those movies with their stellar budgets this movie in parts has been made with skill, care and attention not Hollywood megabucks..
