亀戸アートセンターでは、春日井さゆりによる個展「パーソナル」を開催いたします。
春日井さゆりは、服やカーテン、卵、家など生活の身近なモチーフを用いて、想像上の情景を柔らかな線と丸みを帯びたフォルムで描いてきた作家です。
余白の大きな画面の中にモチーフを丁寧に配置し、日常の断片のようでありながら、現実からわずかにずれた場面を浮かび上がらせる作品には、簡潔な構成と線のリズムによって、親しみやすさの中に不思議な違和感が同居しています。
名古屋市立工芸高校で基礎的な造形を学んだ後、似顔絵師として活動。上京後に通った美学校での制作を通して、モチーフを点在させる構成や余白を生かした現在の表現の基礎が形づくられました。
本展では、これまで描いてきた服のモチーフに加え、カーテンや壁、家といった空間を隔てる要素に着目しています。服と身体のあいだ、カーテンの向こう側とこちら側といった境界に生まれる距離や気配を手がかりに、「パーソナル」というタイトルのもと、個人的な空間や領域についてのイメージが描かれます。
また、パネル作品のほか、蛇腹状の支持体を用いた新しい試みの作品も発表します。手紙から絵が広がっていくような構造を持つ作品で、折りたたまれた画面が空間に連なりながら展開されます。絵画の内部にとどまらず、展示空間へとイメージが広がっていくような構成も本展の特徴のひとつです。
身近なモチーフを手がかりに、パーソナルな空間とその境界の感覚が春日井の手によってどのように描かれるのか。

・作家コンセプト
服の絵をよく描いています。
服を描くことで人の雰囲気や存在や身体との関係を描けるかなと思っています。
最近は家や壁、カーテン等、隔てられた向こうやこちら側で起こっていることが気になっています。
服と身体の間のこと、また壁によって出来るパーソナル(個人的な)なことを描きたいと思って制作しました。
また、一枚の絵は動いていたりストーリーがあるので、描かれなかったところを手紙の中身として作りました。
人の手紙の中は通常見れないので、それもパーソナルなものとして展示します。
Kameido Art Center will present “Personal,” a solo exhibition by Sayuri Kasugai.
Sayuri Kasugai is an artist who depicts imagined scenes using familiar everyday motifs such as clothing, curtains, eggs, and houses, rendered with soft lines and rounded forms.
Within compositions characterized by generous empty space, her motifs are carefully arranged. While they appear like fragments of everyday life, the scenes subtly diverge from reality. Through simple compositions and the rhythm of line, her works evoke both familiarity and a subtle sense of incongruity.
After studying the fundamentals of form at Nagoya Municipal Technical High School, Kasugai worked as a caricature artist. Later, through her studies at Bigakko Art School in Tokyo, she developed the foundations of her current style—compositions in which motifs are scattered across the picture plane and the use of negative space plays an important role.
In this exhibition, alongside the clothing motifs she has frequently depicted, Kasugai turns her attention to elements that divide space—such as curtains, walls, and houses. Taking as a starting point the sense of distance and atmosphere that emerges at boundaries—between clothing and body, or between the two sides of a curtain—the exhibition explores images of personal spaces and territories under the title “Personal.”
In addition to panel paintings, the exhibition will also feature new works using an accordion-fold support. These pieces expand from the form of a letter, unfolding into images that extend through space as the folded surfaces connect and develop. One of the distinctive aspects of this exhibition is how the imagery extends beyond the interior of the painting and into the exhibition space itself.
Using familiar motifs as clues, Kasugai explores how personal spaces and their boundaries can be depicted through painting.We warmly invite you to experience the exhibition.
Artist Statement
I often draw pictures of clothing.By drawing clothes, I feel that I can express a person’s atmosphere, presence, and their relationship with the body.
Recently, I have also become interested in things happening on either side of boundaries—such as houses, walls, and curtains.
Through this work, I wanted to depict what exists between clothing and the body, as well as the personal spaces created by walls.
Each painting contains movement or a story, so I created the parts that were not drawn as the contents of a letter.Since we usually cannot see the inside of someone else’s letter, I present it as something personal within the exhibition.
