亀戸アートセンターでは、ピクセルアーティストのモトクロス斉藤による個展「ウルトラドープ」を開催します。
モトクロス斉藤は、ピクセル表現をベースに、都市や郊外の風景を独自の視点で描いてきたアーティストです。作品にはどこか懐かしさを感じさせながら、現実と仮想の境界を漂うような独特の空気感が広がっています。
幼少期から絵を描くことを好み、中学生の頃にはヒップホップカルチャーを知り、その流れからグラフィティに傾倒するようなります。名古屋芸術大学でグラフィックデザインを学び、広告制作を経験しました。転機となったのはデザイン会社への就職後に遭ったバイク事故でした。長い入院生活の中で、パソコンを使ったデジタル表現によるドット絵制作に取り組むようになります。インターネット上での作品発表を通じて注目を集め、現在はゲーム関連のビジュアルや音楽ジャケットなど幅広い分野で活動しています。
モトクロス斉藤にとって風景を描くことは、物語を語るためというよりも、景色の構造を組み立てていく行為に近いものです。光がどこから当たり、どの面に反射し、どのような色が生まれるのか。そうした関係を一つひとつ考えながら画面を構築していく過程を、作家は「パズルのようなもの」と捉えています。特有の落ち着いた色調の画面構成は、光や環境の関係を頭の中で計算しながら色彩を導き出し、どこかに実在していそうな風景をドットの積み重ねによって描きだします。
本展はモトクロス斉藤がピクセルアートを描き始めて約10年の節目となる展覧会です。デジタル作品に加え、アクリルプレート、スケートボード、アナログペインティング、自ら漉いた紙に印刷した作品など、多様なメディウムによる作品を発表します。
展覧会タイトル「ウルトラドープ」は、作家が制作を続けるなかで大切にしてきた、言葉では説明しきれない感覚や衝動を象徴する言葉です。
モトクロス斉藤の初個展となる本展、この機会にぜひご覧ください。

譲れないものとしての何か。それを言語化できなかったので展示してみます。画業10年目の一つの痕跡として。
Kameido Art Center is pleased to present “ULTRA DOPE,” a solo exhibition by pixel artist Motocross Saito.
Motocross Saito is an artist who has developed a unique approach to depicting urban and suburban landscapes through pixel-based expression. His works evoke a sense of nostalgia while conveying an atmosphere that seems to drift along the boundary between reality and the virtual.
He enjoyed drawing from an early age, and during junior high school he encountered hip-hop culture, which gradually led him to become deeply involved in graffiti. He later studied graphic design at Nagoya University of Arts and worked in advertising production. A turning point came after he was involved in a motorcycle accident shortly after starting a job at a design company. During a long hospitalization, he began creating pixel-based digital works using a computer. Through sharing his work online, he gained attention, and he now works across a wide range of fields, including visuals related to games and music jackets.
For Motocross Saito, painting landscapes is less about telling a story and more akin to constructing the structure of a scene. Where the light falls, which surfaces reflect it, and what kinds of colors emerge from those relationships—he carefully considers each of these elements while building the image. The artist describes this process as “something like solving a puzzle.” His characteristic compositions, marked by calm tonal palettes, are developed by mentally calculating the relationships between light and environment, allowing colors to emerge and forming landscapes that feel as though they might exist somewhere in the real world, built through the accumulation of pixels.
This exhibition marks approximately ten years since Motocross Saito began creating pixel art. In addition to digital works, the exhibition will feature pieces across a variety of media, including acrylic plates, skateboards, analog paintings, and prints on original paper handmade by the artist himself using traditional papermaking techniques.
The exhibition title “ULTRA DOPE” symbolizes the ineffable sensations and impulses that the artist has continued to value throughout his creative practice—feelings that cannot be fully explained in words.
This exhibition will be Motocross Saito’s first solo exhibition. We warmly invite you to take this opportunity to experience his work.

Something that feels non-negotiable to me.Because I couldn’t put it into words, I decided to exhibit it instead—as one trace of my tenth year as an artist.

モトクロス斉藤は日常の空気とストリートカルチャーを横断する作品を主とするピクセルアーティスト。グラフィックデザインを専攻後、ピクセルアートと出会い精力的に活動。ポカリスウェット、新潮文庫、NHK、PUMA、神聖かまってちゃん、au などにも作品を提供している。
