この度、亀戸アートセンターでは、中根唯 個展「小さな大／大きな小」を開催いたします。
中根はこれまで一貫して「絵の発生と在り方」を軸に制作を続けている作家です。
大学在学中から、中根はキャンバスやパネルといった平面にそのまま絵を描くのではなく、球体や不定形の支持体を自作し、その表面に描く作品を制作してきました。あらかじめ与えられた枠に収めるのではなく、支持体そのものをつくり、そこに絵を表出させる。そのプロセスを通して、絵がどのように起ち上がり、絵画として成り立つのかという点に関心を向けています。
近年制作している「毛」のシリーズでは、木枠や支持体を“骨”のようなものとして捉え、そこに下地や絵の具が重なることで、皮膚や毛のようにイメージが現れてくる感覚から作品がつくられています。こうした制作からは、絵画が単なるイメージではなく、どこか生き物のように生成されるものとして現れてくる様子が見えてきます。また、半立体的な構造を持つ作品や、支持体からはみ出すように展開する表現も一貫して見られます。
今回の個展では、これまで制作してきた小さな風景や、生き物の毛のようなモチーフが集まり、ひとつの大きな風景のように見えてくる新作を中心に発表します。中根自身はそのイメージを「スイミーみたい」と表現しています。ひとつひとつは独立した断片でありながら、集まることで別の景色が現れてくるような作品です。
何でもない風景、毛のような表面、自作された不思議な形の支持体。それらが重なることで、絵画は平面の中だけでなく、空間の中に存在するものとして見えてきます。

Kameido Art Center is pleased to present “Small Large / Large Small,” a solo exhibition by Yui Nakane. Nakane has consistently explored the themes of how paintings emerge and what constitutes a painting throughout her practice. Since her time as a university student, rather than painting directly onto flat surfaces such as canvases or panels, Nakane has created her own spherical and irregular supports, producing works painted across their surfaces. Instead of working within a predetermined frame, she constructs the support itself and allows the painting to emerge from it. Through this process, she examines how an image comes into being and how it takes shape as a painting. In her recent “Hair” series, Nakane treats wooden frames and supports like skeletal structures, layering primer and paint onto them until images begin to appear like skin or hair. Through this process, the works seem to emerge less as fixed images and more as living organisms in the process of formation. Her practice has also consistently included semi-three-dimensional structures and compositions that extend beyond the boundaries of the support itself. For this exhibition, Nakane will present new works in which small landscapes and hair-like motifs gather together to form what appears to be one large landscape. Nakane herself describes the image as being “like Swimmy.” Each fragment exists independently, yet when assembled together, an entirely different scene begins to emerge. Ordinary landscapes, hair-like surfaces, and curiously shaped handmade supports overlap and intertwine, allowing painting to appear not only within a flat surface, but as something existing within space itself. 中根唯
1992年、北海道生まれ。愛知県、千葉県育ち。2019年東京藝術大学大学院美術研究科絵画専攻油画技法・材料研究分野修了。
「絵の在り方」をキーワードに、絵画に生々しさや不明瞭さを宿すことを意識しながら制作している。
有機的なかたちの支持体に風景・生き物・毛などを描いたり、半立体のパーツを組み合わせて絵画作品をつくっている。

Yui Nakane
Born in 1992 in Sapporo, Hokkaido. Raised in Aichi and Chiba, Japan. Completed the Oil Painting Techniques and Materials program in the Graduate School of Fine Arts at Tokyo University of the Arts in 2019.
Working with the idea of “what painting can be,” Nakane creates works that consciously retain a sense of rawness and ambiguity.
She produces paintings on organically shaped supports depicting landscapes, living creatures, and hair-like forms, while also constructing works through combinations of semi-three-dimensional painted elements.
