Differences between Protex C and Protex M

This time, we'd like to explain the differences between Protex C and Protex M, a question we frequently receive.
A brief explanation is available on our product page, but we'll provide a more detailed explanation here.
First, Protex® is a highly flame-retardant type with improved flame retardancy and heat resistance compared to Kanekalon.
In terms of fiber classification, it is an acrylic fiber (modacrylic fiber).
Protex C has a LOI value of "32" (indicating flame retardancy), a dull luster, a strength of "3.2 cN/dtex," and an elongation of "23%."
Protex M has a LOI value of "32" (indicating flame retardancy), a dull luster, a strength of "2.4 cN/dtex," and an elongation of "23%."

Comparing these two, you might only notice that Protex M is slightly weaker in strength, but there's a difference in flame retardancy.
While the LOI values are the same, Protex M has superior flame retardancy compared to Protex C.
A key feature of Protex is that it can be blended, knitted, or woven with cellulose fibers (such as rayon) and cotton.
With Protex M, flame retardancy can be maintained even with approximately 45% cotton mixed in, whereas with Protex C, the percentage must be lower.
There's another difference: the fineness of the raw cotton.
Protex C has a fineness of "1.7 dtex," while Protex M has a fineness of "2.2 dtex."
This relates to the thickness of the yarn.
Because Protex M uses coarser raw cotton, it's more difficult to produce thinner yarn.
Therefore, the finest yarn count we can spin for Protex M is 20/1.
On the other hand, because Protex C uses finer raw cotton, the finest yarn count is 40/1.
We stock 20/1 as Protex M, and all other counts as Protex C.
