『ちいかわ』について英会話レッスンでシェアした。(笑)

いつもの英国人の先生との英会話レッスン。先生に勧められた『Digger』を舞台挨拶ライブ付で鑑賞した話から、『ちいかわ』を観た話へ。

怖かった…と話すと、当然「なんで？」と聞かれ、英語でどこから話すか？ 一瞬混乱しましたが、こんな風に説明しました。

ちなみにこれは、作中のセイレーンではありません。Geminiがイメージして描きました。(笑)

【ネタバレ注意】

３人の子供がいるセイレーンって人魚がいるんだけど、ある日その人魚と子供が泳いでいるとき、２匹の動物が乗っているボートに当たってしまって、２匹のうち１匹は瀕死の状態になったんだよね。で、人魚を食べると永遠の命が手に入るっていうことをその動物は知っていて、ある日、人魚の子供を襲ってしまう。そして、人魚を食べさせて、一匹は、永遠の命を手に入れて、生き返る。だけど、１人で永遠の命で生きていくのは辛すぎるから、もう一匹にも食べるように要求するんだよ。そして、二人は永遠の命を手に入れたんだわ。ちなみに、お尻にバッテリーがついている。

で、人魚は、誰が犯人かを捜すために、島中の動物を捕まえ、鍋で煮込んで食べて…。

『ちいかわ』は、ほとんどしゃべらない。しゃべるキャラクターもきまっているから、観るものが、何を考えているんだろう？って考える余白もあるんだよね。

このあたりで、先生も驚きはじめました。

「人魚は話せるの？」

「話せる」

この雑なあらすじで、先生も興味を持ったようでした。

皆さんは、興味を持ちましたか？(笑)

私の英語は適当ですが、怖さは通じたようでした。以下に、正しい英語を書いておきたいと思います。

There’s a siren, a kind of mermaid, who has three children.

One day, while she’s swimming with her children, they accidentally hit a boat with two animals in it. One of the animals is seriously injured and almost dies.

The other animal knows that if you eat a mermaid, you can live forever.

So one day, it attacks one of the mermaid’s children and makes the dying animal eat it. As a result, the animal comes back to life and becomes immortal.

But living forever alone would be too painful, so it asks the other animal to eat the mermaid too.

And that’s how they both become immortal.

By the way, they have batteries attached to their butts! (LOL)

Meanwhile, the mother mermaid wants to find out who killed her child. So she catches all the animals on the island, boils them in a huge pot, and eats them.

The interesting thing about *Chiikawa* is that most of the characters hardly speak. Only certain characters can actually talk.

So the audience has to imagine what the characters are thinking and feeling.

I think that leaves a lot of room for interpretation, which makes the movie really interesting.
