Onigiri Action: Carrying the Spirit of "Goho Yoshi (Five-Way Win)" into the Future

2026.10.16 06:53

"Onigiri Action" is taking place from October 8 to November 17.
This activity is conducted by TABLE FOR TWO International*1 (hereinafter "TFT") to commemorate World Food Day, established by the United Nations on October 16.
This is a social campaign*2 that delivers school meals to children in Africa and Asia through the simple act of posting photos of onigiri (rice balls) on social media or a dedicated website.
The Sumitomo Riko Group has supported and participated in this initiative since 2024. Through this activity, we place great importance on fostering a corporate culture in which each employee contributes to solving social issues.

TFT Initiatives

TFT’s activities involve collaboration among NPOs, companies, and local governments to work together on solving social issues. It also contributes to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically "No Poverty" (Goal 1) and "Zero Hunger" (Goal 2).
As part of a global initiative, Onigiri Action 2026 will collaborate with support organizations within Japan to simultaneously provide food assistance to children in the country.

"Onigiri Action" and Our "Goho-Yoshi" Philosophy

We operate in over 20 countries and deeply resonate with TFT’s initiative to deliver school meals to children around the world through Japanese *onigiri* (rice balls).
This initiative not only contributes to addressing the social issue of providing food assistance to children around the world, but also creates value that extends to participating employees, the children receiving aid, the organizations and companies driving the activities, local communities, and future generations.
This approach of generating value together with diverse stakeholders aligns with the "Five-Way Win" (Goho-Yoshi) philosophy set forth in the Mid-Term Management Plan 2029 (2029M).

Spreading the "Onigiri Action" initiative from within the company

This is a photo of an onigiri (rice ball) that I posted on the first day of the campaign.
We are raising awareness of and supporting the "Onigiri Action" campaign within the company; as part of the "Sumitomo Riko Attaka Club"*3 initiative, we will be holding photo sessions in the cafeterias at our various bases.
This year, in addition to the Komaki Head Office and Plants, we will also be holding sessions at the Matsusaka Plant.
Why not grab an onigiri and share your smiles with children around the world?
Each individual's participation in the Onigiri Action supports the future of children and contributes to creating a better society.
The Onigiri Action is also an initiative that allows us to put the "Goho-Yoshi (Five-Way Win)" principle into practice through everyday actions.
Whether you participate every year or are considering joining for the first time, let us come together through Onigiri Action to build a better future.

*1 TABLE FOR TWO International, a non-profit organization, promotes dietary improvement in developed countries and supports school lunches and the establishment of vegetable gardens in developing countries in order to eliminate the food imbalance of obesity and hunger in the world. For every meal you eat from a reduced-calorie menu to prevent obesity and lifestyle-related diseases, 20 yen will be donated through TFT for a school meal for a child in a developing country. For every one meal eaten in developed countries, one meal is donated to a developing country.

*2 This is a social campaign in which participants post photos of onigirion a special website or on social networking sites with #OnigiriAction, and for each post, 5 school lunches will be delivered. This campaign is now in its 10th year. For more information, please check the official website.
