These are my comments about Linotype's FontExplorer X Pro for Windows and font management.

Plug-In updater

Linotype GmbH and its parent company, Monotype Imaging Holdings Inc. (Nasdaq: TYPE), a leading global provider of text imaging solutions, has released version 2.0.3 of its FontExplorer X Pro font management solution, adding support for the Mac OS X 10.6x (Snow Leopard) operating system. The new version includes various enhancements, including the ability to see which languages a font’s character set supports. In addition, FontExplorer X Pro enables the ability to directly clear the font cache when using QuarkXPress 8 graphic design software. Current FontExplorer X Pro users with Mac OS X Snow Leopard version 10.6x can receive this maintenance update at no cost through the integrated update function of FontExplorer X Pro or by downloading the latest version. A 30-day trial version of FontExplorer X Pro is also available for download for new customers.

If you are not currently using the updated versions, FontExplorer X will stop working for you when the application re-launches.

Overall there is still some functionality I'm missing and the program is still slow (with my large database it can take up to 50 seconds for the first font activation/deactivation of a session â?? subsequent actions are usually under 5 seconds), but the new features allow me to recommend FEX. If you're a casual user, maybe the other programs are a tad simpler to use and look more sleek, but I really want to dig into the fonts â?? see all glyphs (and I mean all), view all the information contained in a font, customize everything, print nice samples â?? and neither FAP or SF allow me to do that like FEX can.
