I found this to be the case as well, although it depended on the equipment. For instance, for me at least, using my SX-814 - the program could not gain control of the filter wheel when the camera, FW and guide camera were all plugged into a stand-alone powered USB hub and then to a 50ft active USB cable. But, there is no problem when I plug the filter wheel and guide camera into the onboard USB hub on the camera and then run a 50ft active cable to the house. I was also able to control my Moonlite stepper motor and CGEM mount with both going into a powered USB hub and then a single cable to the computer just fine. The morale of the story?: Sometime a USB hub may work, and sometimes not.

at any rate what you're doing is how i started out as well. i would still consider the windows route once you get this going. EOS utility does work but it's a lot easier to use a capture program that can give intelligent names to the files.

It allow to easily set the main parameters require to use this driver and manage the alignment data.

But assuming its compatible with the Nebulosity Mac list of cameras, then all you need is Nebulosity and PHD 1 or 2. PHD 2 has more features but PHD 1 works fine too with fewer bells and whistles, either is free. You won't need any "drivers" they're all built into the software. You *might* need a Shoestring Astronomy GPUSB guide box adapter for the mount, but I have no idea if CGEM is compatible with straight USB connection or not. HTH
