What I’d like to talk about “Decluttering “

2019.10.26 08:00

●My Vision

My vision is to spread Japanese high-skilled organization theory worldwide, and to increase the number of people who can appreciate daily life (food, clothing and house), for social harmony, environmental issues and working problems.

What triggered me to think about was moving to Frankfurt for my husband's overseas transfer in 2015. Until then, I’d been working for one of the biggest Japanese publishers in Tokyo for 10 years.

At that time I used to have a busy life with a strong focus on work. My work days started at 9:30 am and sometimes I worked until midnight, so I often missed the last train. In those days, I had no time to enjoy my daily life (clothing, food and home).

However, after I moved to Frankfurt, my life totally changed. Because I didn’t have a work visa there, I had plenty of time to appreciate daily life and think more about life as a full-time house-wife.

Since then I started studying fashion styling, cooking Japanese dishes and organizing my home. Finally, when I returned to Japan temporarily to give birth last year, I acquired 2 qualifications, as professional personal stylist and professional organizer.

Through living in Europe, I noticed that appreciating daily life can make my whole life fulfilling because it’s the accumulation of everyday experience. It does not mean spending a bigger “amount” of time and money on daily life and being lazy. It means just purely enjoying the clothing, food and home in front of us, which makes us smile more every day. In other words, appreciating the "quality" of life.

The organizing skills of Japanese who live in the highest population density city, TOKYO, are extremely high and it is no exaggeration to regard it as one of the proudest aspects of Japanese culture, like Sushi and Kimono. Also, in terms of the following 3 points, I believe it’s so practical and valuable to make all people happy.

That’s why I would love to spread the message to not only Japanese who live in London, but also the British people.

1. Social harmony:

Life is the accumulation of daily experience. Appreciating daily life can enrich our whole lives. In addition, I think that creating organized condition in a house or office (“Omotenashi”) shares considerate behavior for the others who share our space, such as families and colleagues. That’s why it can contribute to make all people happier.

2. Environmental issues:

There is an old Japanese word, "Mottainai", which means cherishing old things, instead

of buying new ones. In addition we now have the idea of “Danshari”, which means not buying unnecessary things, and throwing away things you don't need is also on trend. It’s based on zen-buddhist ideals of detachment from possessions. I believe that teaching such a Japanese sense of values through Japanese organizing theory

will present some solutions for global environmental problems.

3. Working style problems:

As I myself showed, Japanese people tend to do a lot of overtime work and are very

workaholic. Also the decision processes of Japanese companies might be inefficient. The knowledge of decluttering theory is also useful for organizing not only things, but also thoughts. In other words, it can support an efficient working style.
