TIME/THE TIME

“The” is one of the most difficult words for most students. But here are two simple (but important!) phrases to help you know when to use “the.”

①　”Do you have time?” って聞いたら (no “the” ですね!)　「時間ありますか？」という意味になります。

②　”Do you have the time?”って聞く時は (“the”あり!) 「何時ですか？」という意味になるんですよ。

Here are some other useful “time” expressions.

・a good time (楽しい時間)

・3 times, 4 times, 5 times (3回、4回、5回)

・anytime (いつでも)

・sometime (いつか)

・sometimes (時々)　　←これも間違えやすいところですね！　英語で時々って言いたい時は必ず “s” をつけなくてはいけないけません！そうしないと「時々」じゃなくて「いつか」という意味になるから。
