Resume Focused on the life of the band and their collaborators over the 3 vital years in which they developed critically acclaimed albums, 'Humanz' and 'The Now Now', and undertook their most ambitious world tour to date Damon Albarn country UK rating 7,6 of 10. Free Gorillaz: Reject False icone décorative. Gorillaz remain a point of inspiration in British music. A truly multi-media, cross platform endeavour, the project's 2018 album 'The Now Now' saw them work alongside a host of guests under the supervision of producer James Ford. Released to ecstatic acclaim, it saw Gorillaz link with everyone from rap force Little Simz to George Benson, as well as mending bridges with Noel Gallagher. New film Gorillaz: Reject False Icons documents aspects of the creative process, with director Denholm Hewlett gaining unheard of access. Moving between animated and physical realms, it features Gorillaz founders Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett at work in the studio, alongside a roll call that features a few of their lauded guests. A space where the virtual meets the real, Gorillaz: Reject False Icons is out tonight - December 16th - as part of a global screening event. Clash writer Milo Wasserman caught an up-front glimpse of the film - here's what he gleaned from it... - - - 1. Gorillaz are one big, big family As Damon Albarn attests, over 100 actors, musicians and artists have been involved in the Gorillaz’ musical output across 'Humanz' and 'The Now Now' as well as the world tour this film chronicles. Aussie actor Ben Mendelsohn makes a few appearances, mainly cracking a few gags and doing some surreal voice work. Kali Uchis, Mavis Staples, Danny Brown, Vince Staples, Jenny Beth and many, many others come and go. Gorillaz have a pull that not many artists could command - everyone wants in. More importantly, for those involved there are positive vibes everywhere. Their togetherness is clear as they all join, arms interlocked, in a circle of positivity before every show. 2. Damon Albarn is as infectiously enthusiastic, charismatic and charming as ever The gold tooth, the goofy smile, the energy. It’s all there, and it’s easy to see how Albarn carries his merry circus. Even when they only had five weeks to record 'The Now Now' in the middle of a world tour, we never saw any sign of personality clashes, issues in the relationship between sound and image, or tour induced exhaustion. The man is a force of nature. 3. Peven Everett is electric, on and off the stage Out of all the talented artists involved in the film, one stands out: Peven Everett. Getting to know Chicago Royalty Everett throughout the movie, he comes across as eminently likeable, infectiously enthusiastic and, obviously, enviably talented. He is certainly an able to deputy to the late Bobbie Womack. Everett is the sort of guy you would work with in a heartbeat. And introduce to your mum. 4. Jamie Hewlett's artwork is stunning, but there could be more on show… Okay, so we all knew this. For over 20 years we’ve salivated over Hewlett Sr. ’s work in bringing to life the original four Gorillaz concept characters. And having waited so many years for a film (this is the second after Ceri Levy’s 2008 piece Bananaz), we were hoping to get more of a behind-the-scenes look at Jamie Hewlett’s creative process. However, Reject False Icons prioritises studio footage over a deeper look at how the visuals are created. Maybe Hewlett Jr. wanted to make sure Dad didn’t become the star of the show. 5. Denholm Hewlett is still raw This was a big opportunity for Denholm Hewlett to make an early name for himself. Given how instantly recognisable and distinct Gorillaz artwork is, there was always going to be pressure on Denholm as a film maker to firmly step out of his father’s shadow. After all, no one wants to be known as Someone Else’s Kid. In the end, the story lacked cohesion. It is hard to gain a real insight into the inner workings of Gorillaz when the film is largely a series of vignettes of Albarn and his merry crew larking around in the studio. In short, the final cut feels more like a sentimental, unprovocative journey than a revealing glimpse into what makes the band tick. Are Murdoc, 2-D, Noodle and Russel are being fazed out...? One noticeable absence from the film was the, rightly iconic, original conceptual band members. Evolution is inevitable, and after 20 years Murdoc, 2-D, Noodle and Russel are gradually being overwhelmed. To say they are being marginalised feels crude, although maybe we’re just feeling a touch nostalgic. We’re not suggesting all good things come to an end, maybe they just evolve. Gorillaz reject false icons free online. Best dance song my arse. No wonder Damon had that “wtf” look when this song won an award at the EMAs. Especially when Daft Punk was nominated. Apparently we are getting A other Album soon too 😍. It plays in Canada tomorrow and I'm not sure if watching these reviews is gonna ruin it but I can't help myself. I get that it wasnt a deep look, but I still personally greatly enjoyed it. My ears were so numb afterwards though but it was worth it. I really don't understand the negativity towards this fun sendoff. A documentary can be a number of things, and some people will expect them to be a certain way. This was never meant to be some monumental film for Gorillaz, rather it is a celebration of the last two albums and their accompanying world tour. It gave me a renewed appreciation for Humanz, with a closer look at its initial production. I even listened to all of The Now Now after this, my summer 2018 soundtrack. Everybody that worked on these projects and performed together all seemed to be like a big family. The talented people that made these albums possible are featured. Damon and Jamie were really funny, too. You get to see some interesting behind the scenes action at the making of the music, and even for Jamie's sketches that would become official artwork for the band. While the title Reject False Icons does not really relate to the mantra/idea from Demon Days, the festival in LA looked amazing. I guess that some expected much more from the Gorillaz brand in a weird way. Denholm's Director's Cut was uploaded onto YouTube in three parts, which was a nice gift at the end of the year for the niche fan base. A part of his style was to have most of the film in black and white, with the concerts being in color to show off the light show of the stages and energy of the performers. While not groundbreaking in any way, this will appeal much more to Gorillaz fans such as myself.

There was zero overarching story/meaning behind it, just a bunch of artists recording and performing 2 albums. which could have been interesting but since there were no interviews, no meaningful interactions, zero in depth explanation of anything. it wasn't.
It felt exactly like someone going on holiday and just filming a 20second clip every day and stitching it together when they got home. But instead of just showing it to whoever was on the vacation and some friends and laughing at the memories and antics they made it 1.5 hours long, charged 16 euros, hyped it up by being all mysterious, and bored the crap out of everyone watching.
I was there with a friend and long term fan of the gorillaz (since album 1) and the first thing he said to me when the lights came on was 'I tought it was never gonna end! Finally. br> I think that says enough...

Some say they still haven't payed their taxes. Feels good Inc my heart because it's Spitting out demon days of the 19-2000s with about 5/4 of it's Rockit intact, the Humility of this track just gives me Rhinestone eyes that fills my Last living souls of Melancholy hills and it shows with such Stylo that even Clint Eastwood knows Tomorrow comes today. No one understands this Some kind of nature but that's ok, lets just hang out at Saturnz barz & Dare each other to fly the Pirate jet to reach Ascension, hopefully we won't discover that Every planet we reach is dead but even if that happens we'll Rock the house before we get Busted & blue when November comes to Tranz us Humanz, Do ya thing White light.

Free gorillaz: reject false icons without. A first look at the cartoon band's new feature length excursion. Gorillaz fans have been waiting years for an animated movie based around the antics of the world's longest-running cartoon band; it's been long mooted since the 2000s, with Terry Gilliam's name coming up at one point. Maybe a few were expecting something like that when announced that  Reject False Icons would be screening for one night only in select cinemas, giving the whole thing an air of mystique. Reject, as we'll stick to calling it, is not that film. Even calling it a standard music doc somewhat falls short as a description, not because the movie's some sort of mixed-media hybrid - how cool would that have been? - but because most documentaries have an essential narrative underpinning them, or private moments where you really get to know the humanz  being presented to you on camera. Reject  has none of that, unless you count it as the basic story of Band goes on tour, Finishes tour, The End. That's what you get here, and if you expect nothing more, then  Reject  False Icons  should be a pleasing experience for most Gorillaz fans. You get blasts of the live show, some studio jamming, a bit of banter here and there. What you don't see much of is 2-D, Murdoc, Noodle, Russel and temporary Gorilla/Powerpuff Girl alumni Ace; in other words, the Gorillaz themselves. That shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone who's followed the project's trajectory from its cartoon inception in 2000 to the Damon Albarn side-project that the band essentially is today. Reject  basically cements the Gorillaz as it stands in the 2020s, with no behind-the-scenes peeks of their music videos, no focus on the stage visuals behind Albarn and company, and barely any moments with the artist behind it all, Jamie Hewlett (even though his son, Denholm, is the one shooting everything we see. ) The band's one other feature length excursion from 2008, Ceri Levy's  Bananaz, did a much better job at showing the unit as a duo, being half about the music, and half about the art. It also did a good job in showing dialogue and situations from start to finish, something  Reject  just doesn't seem interested in doing. Conversations are either joined midway, or mixed with dodgy audio. A parade of guest singers are presented to us, sterling talent like Kelela and Lil Simz, but who have little to say or - more accurately - no chance to say it. None of these alternative stars really comment on what the band means to them, nor how they crossed paths, or where the inspiration for lyrics and performances may have come from. We don't get a feel for what's changed since Bananaz was released, or what the band stands for any more. We don't even get to know what's next for the group. The most silent figure in all this is Jamie Hewlett himself. The Gorillaz character designer and visual guru doesn't really get a look in until almost 80 minutes in; when he does appear on screen, he does some cool sketches, talks a bit about the eraser on the end of his pencil - and that's it. Imagine if we'd instead heard him talk about adapting his art as tech evolved in the 2010s, how he feels about his position in the act, what he thinks about the act's music and talent involved. We see him doodle among overheard mentions of what the characters are up to now - Murdoc in jail, Ace joining the band - but with little idea who's behind these ideas, or what fun these narratives open up to the creators. Damn, there could have been a whole segment based around why they decided to add a freakin' Powerpuff Girl character to the group, and the logistics in making that a reality. Should you reject Reject False Icons, then? If you love all things animation, character design and pop culture, then yes. If you're into noodly keyboard jams, snippets of stage shows and Damon Albarn's contented face, then no. Gorilalz: Reject False Icons premieres for one night only this December 16th, 2019.
