Big Time Adolescence Synopsis A 16 year old virgin with a growth hormone deficiency slowly gets corrupted by his hero, an aimless college dropout. Popular reviews More As expected, I’m a big time fan of Big Time Adolescence. A hilarious yet depressing coming of age story? Ofcourse. Only solidifies my stance on Pete Davidson being one of my favorite celebrities working today. I didn’t do the things this kid did, but I really felt what he felt in high school, and I love how well this film portrayed that. It’s essentially a better Mid90s. High school boys need a really good coming of age film, and I feel like this is exactly that. THIS is the essential coming of age film from now BIG TIME ADOLESCENCE is a marvelous starring vehicle for Pete Davidson. As the stoner fuckup who is dragging his best friend, a 16 year old, down with him, Davidson is pathetic but always hysterically entertaining. Jon Cryer is very good here as well. Has a lot of good laughs but doesn’t provide anything we haven’t seen before. BIG TIME ADOLESCENCE may not be the most original outing, but it’s still a deeply funny and surprisingly heartfelt coming-of-age story. WRITTEN REVIEW HERE when is this movie going to be open to the fucking public!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Recent reviews Should’ve been 20 minutes longer, both story and character arcs stop short A familiar but entertaining and thoughtful coming of age movie. Watched for griff at the ny premiere @ metrograph Uproarious, I need to get over my Pete Davidson crush but he is exceptionally well-cast in this. _a bittersweet look at taking one's idols off their pedestals. _ Fun with some great moments but ultimately treads no new ground & fails to impress in its final act. The type of bro movie that would've been right at home 10 years ago, but feels stale upon arrival now. Pete Davidson is actually the best part, though he is the only part given some personality, besides Oona Laurence's natural charisma and Jon Cryer letting his anger out. Davidson channels late 90s Adam Sandler, so he gets some laughs even if the setups and punchlines are as equally offputting as each other. I would be much kinder to this if Mo's character arc wasn't so lazy or if the script was just a little more inspired with its story. Oh well. A beautiful film. Nuff said. Popular Lists More.
Big time adolescence theaters. Big time adolescence showtimes. (CNN) Pete Davidson doesn't exactly stretch much as a performer playing a 20-something slacker in "Big Time Adolescence, " a Hulu-bound movie that's most surprising for what it isn't. Somewhat ironically, the main flaw with this earnest film built around a directionless character is its lack of a clear objective. Buying into the premise requires a bit of leeway to get started: During high school, Davidson's Zeke dated the older sister of Mo (Griffin Gluck), and remained his pal after they broke up. Now Mo's a 16-year-old high school student -- with all the attendant insecurities -- and Zeke, at 23, mostly enjoys getting high and playing video games. That the two remain near-inseparable seems odd to, well, pretty much everyone, perhaps especially Mo's dad (Jon Cryer). Yet the family tolerates the situation, which will gradually have pretty significant consequences (foreshadowed in a pre-credit sequence) as Mo's budding adolescence runs into Zeke's Peter Pan-like case of arrested development. For Davidson, the "Saturday Night Live" star whose off-screen life is generally more interesting than his on-screen contributions, Zeke certainly offers an easy transition to movies, though the central focus is actually Gluck, whose struggles with all the usual teen troubles are complicated by Zeke's been-there advice and generally bad influence. Mo insists Zeke is "a nice guy once you get to know him, " but his cavalier attitude -- toward everything from his retail job to relationships -- doesn't always make him the most sterling counselor. That includes his suggestion that Mo become the source of booze and pot for a circle of "friends" that not surprisingly mushrooms after learning that he can supply them. Written and directed by Jason Orley (whose credits include Davidson's stand-up special "Pete Davidson: Alive from New York"), the unexpected aspect of "Big Time Adolescence" is that it doesn't fit neatly into the usual boxes. It's not a madcap coming-of-age comedy, though there are a few laughs; and it's not morally scolding of Mo's ruinous trip toward teenage wasteland, though it does indicate that following in Zeke's footsteps is likely a dead-end path. That relegates the movie to a sort of limbo, pivoting on a central dynamic that leaves you wondering how Mo's folks allowed the situation to reach this perilous juncture. It's mentioned that Zeke is "like" a big brother, but that's not an entirely convincing reason for why nobody intervened sooner. Nor is the overall picture helped by a problematic if predictable subplot involving Zeke's girlfriend ("Euphoria's" Sydney Sweeney). If there's a standout here, it's Gluck, playing the latest permutation of the confused but very-real-seeming teenage boy. As for Davidson, while he fits right in as a grown-up adolescent, given "SNL's" storied history of alumni graduating into movies, this minor vehicle doesn't appear to move him any closer to the big time. "Big Time Adolescence" premieres March 13 in selected theaters and March 20 on Hulu. It's rated R.

Big time adolescence. Big time adolescence release date. 0 Flares × When a film pulls off a masterstroke of casting, the effect is obvious. Envisaging anyone else in the role becomes impossible, and even contemplating another actor in the part seems preposterous. Such is the case with Big Time Adolescence, which hangs shrewdly, firmly and engagingly off of Pete Davidson’s lanky shoulders. It mightn’t appear much of a stretch to task the Saturday Night Live star with playing a tall, tattooed, peroxide-locked, overly confident stoner-slacker — one with far more attitude than direction, and with questionable opinions on romance, too — but it’s pivotal to this coming-of-age comedy about a quiet high schooler, the 23-year-old best friend he reveres, and the rite-of-passage realization that teen dreams and adult realities rarely ultimately coincide. In a loose, naturalistic performance, Davidson plays Zeke, the unofficial guiding hand to 16-year-old Mo (Griffin Gluck). Zeke once dated Mo’s older sister Kate (Emily Arlook) — and while that relationship crumbled when she started to tire of his immature ways, the bonds of pseudo-brotherhood have remained strong. When Mo was ten, Zeke treated him like an equal when no one else did, taking him on rollercoasters, sneaking him into movies and never making him feel like a kid. Six years later, they’re now sharing beers, cigarettes and just generally hanging out with Zeke’s friends in the house that he inherited from his grandmother. In Zeke, Mo has an idol. In Mo, Zeke has a protégé, mascot, joined-to-the-hip mini-me and ongoing source of worship. And to the surprise of no one, Mo’s caring, cautious, increasingly perplexed dad Reuben (Jon Cryer) isn’t thrilled. Written and directed by Jason Orley, a feature first-timer who also helmed Davidson’s recent Netflix standup special Pete Davidson: Alive from New York — and has an assistant stint on Nancy Meyers’ It’s Complicated to his name as well— Big Time Adolescence treads down a narrative path familiar from a wealth of high-school set tales about impressionable kids falling into the thrall of imperfect role models. Indeed, Reuben’s fears about Zeke’s influence prove well-founded when, in an effort to appear cool, Mo agrees to start selling Zeke’s drugs to his own wealthier classmates. Mo is also trying to impress Sophie (Oona Laurence), the girl he hasn’t been able to work up the nerve to talk to until they cross paths at a party. In both scenarios, he takes Zeke’s advice as gospel, even as his gut tells him that pushing weed to his peers and ignoring the girl of his dreams aren’t the best ideas. It’s no discredit to Orley, his frequently amusing script, his knack for realistic dialogue or the film’s glossy teen movie sheen to note that, in casting Davidson, he made his savviest move. Big Time Adolescence needs Davidson to strut in Zeke’s shoes, to typify twenty-something arrested development and to brandish the kind of energy that’s hovered around the performer ever since he started becoming more famous for his private life than his career. It needs that presence, wrapped with a devil-may-care smirk and packaged with relaxed charm, as well. Without it, Mo’s connection to Zeke would feel thin — and that’s what the entire feature hinges upon. This isn’t just a movie about a kid attempting to be popular, endeavoring to woo his first girlfriend and stressing out his parents, although the template definitely fits. More than that, however, it’s a film about a teen who has grown up with one concept of maturity and one vision of approaching life with a casual, anything goes, “you only live once” attitude, but finds himself reassessing his choices — as well as the friend that’s shaped them. Big Time Adolescence also benefits from Davidson’s comic delivery, both physically and verbally, whether Zeke is dancing to a record he buys on impulse with his drug earnings or making the purchase of a foot spa sound like the most important thing in his life. And, it makes the most of his his ability to segue from layabout ebullience to eventual hints of introspection, in a film with a clear but never overstressed message about the right and wrong decisions to make. Gluck, sporting the right mix of poise, uncertainty and awkwardness, is also nicely cast. Cryer, reminding 80s teen film fans of his own experience in the genre, gives weight to what could’ve been a stock-standard role — and while Laurence’s Sophie isn’t afforded much depth, her rapport with Gluck ripples with authenticity. But in a movie that fleshes out a well-worn narrative arc by diving into that time in every adolescent’s life when they take risks, make mistakes, follow messy paths, and begin to reassess what and who is important, understanding the layered allure of Zeke and Mo’s friendship is paramount. And thanks to great central casting, it’s so keenly explored and wholly relatable that it feels as if it could’ve been ripped from everyone’s teenage memories, too. Twitter 0 Facebook ×.
