L'éloge du 93, this is a movie which glorifies hoodlums from the worst area in France. The kind of area where a white guy would get mugged by a group of 20 senegalese teens on a daily basis. The idea that the police mistreat these guys is laughable. Rocks get thrown at cops, I've never heard of this in the US. A couple years ago some where of these hoodlums threw kerosene in two cop cars and lit it on fire while they were still inside. Two cops were gravely injured and out of the kids who did this, a fraction of them only got 10 to 20 years with chance of parole, so they will only be there for 5 years.

Happy barricade day, friends. I love that this shows just what survivors guilt is and the raw emotion and pain being left behind is like. Some people acknowledge that this movie is well shot, but complain that it doesn't get the roots of the problem, doesn't point out the culprits, probably the capitalist society and France's colonial past. Neither does it offer much in the way of easy solutions, which would have been completely off the mark. Any of that would have led to a militant movie that would have satisfied a few militants but that would have had much less impact on the rest of the viewers.
People compare this movie to La Haine, which was a landmark in its time; but Les Miserables takes a much wider view, where each participant - even the shadiest - has his own logic (few women in this movie, btw) and reasons for doing what they are doing. It is this humanist outlook that tags it to Victor Hugo, rather than the story that has little to do with the novel of the same name.
The suspense is riveting to the end, all the more that we don't know exactly where the movie is going. There are loads of short appearances by little-known actors that leave you wondering whether they are are actually acting a part or playing their own role. The action scenes are realistic and original.

AHH I GET TO GO THERE NEXT YEAR! OUR CHOIR DID IT. Slow moving but engaging, Les Misérables is a well-crafted modern take on Victor Hugo's classic novel. Ultimately a police procedural, the story often feels familiar, but strong performances from complex characters will hold your attention through the film's intense final act.

These ladies can really dance. love this. THEY ARE SO GOOD. OMG WOW. My favorite part is the doorway to paradise he sings it so well. If I were you I would use those frickin' empty chairs and empty tables on that barricade and then, my friends wouldn't be dead. J'ai lu le roman lorsque j'étais au collège et y a pas à dire : c'est un grand chef d'oeuvre de la littérature. Victor Hugo était un écrivain formidable dont l'oeuvre est juste passionnante. Cette adaptation est remarquable, très fidèle au bouquin. Lino Ventura est purement fabuleux dans le rôle de Jean Valjean. C'est vraiment regrettable qu'il ait loupé le César du Meilleur Acteur car à mon avis, pour ce rôle, il le méritait très largement. Jean Carmet et Michel Bouquet eux aussi sont excellents.

Moi qui habite en banlieue ce film représente une minorité, les vrai misérables sont ceux qui habitent hors de paris et sa banlieue, ce sont ceux qui brûlent pas les voitures, qui caillassent pas les services de l'état et qui ne font pas de guet appents a la police pour les attaquer. Macron apparemment est bouleversé par ce film, il devrait l'être plutôt par les retraités qui fouillent les poubelles pour bouffer, pour les étudiants qui se prostituent pour payer leur études au lieu de Kaïras qui en ont rien à foutre du vivre ensemble, surtout que le deal rapporte en 1 jour un Smic.
