Usually if you buy something new, it is the most beautiful in this time. However "Gyokusendo" Tsuiki copperware is getting more beautiful with the passage of time...
Tsuiki is a metal working technique that is derived from the words 'hammer' and 'raise'.
The creation of vessels via this metal working technique require an array of different tools.
A kettle alone, for instance, would require dozens of anvil stakes and hammers to complete.
When our artisans hammer, they hammer to shrink not stretch the copper.
The artisan has an image of the finished kettle in their mind and their hands move to bring it to life.
You can buy the Gyokusendo works in Tokyo but the writer really recommend to visit the head office in tsubamesanjyo, Niigata prefecture.
The writer visited the head office before. I was impressed the entrance and the mail hall. They are very typical Japanese traditional style. There is a garden, tatami floor, irori fireplace, flower arrangement...
You must enjoy the atmosphere.
You can see the factory. Many craftsmen work here.
These days, the young people do not really take over the traditional job but Gyokusendo is popular from the young people.
Gyokusendo works must be attractive for them. This factory is very rare one which the young people work in.
The design and color are unique and the only one which each craftsmen produce.
Just strike, strike, keep striking...
The kettles, cups, flowerballs, teapot...
Everything is beautiful and gorgeous. Good for souvenir and good for your life.
You can see the Japanese traditional skill in them.
