Woodstock fair. Woodstock jimi hendrix. Man we had some energy at those old concerts, I went to a warp tour and a few that damn shows. Okay kids gather around, I believe I was 24 and my wife was 25. She got a letter from her sister who was 17 in Maryland to come and pick her up to escape extreme prejudiced in the area and a Catholic upbringing. so the three of us ran away and went down and worked in Ocean City Maryland for the summer. And my sister-in-law being 17 hung out with the kids on the boardwalk after work. She and my wife worked long hours at a Red Lobster type of establishment. Low wages and long hours. I had been back from Vietnam by two years. late one night she heard a rumor that Dylan and Joan Baez and 7 other acts were going to be doing an art show and a concert up in Upstate New York which was close to Ocean City Maryland. I had a half ton Dodge camper truck. She said let's pull money together and pick up hitchhikers on the way and go. that was Thursday night. We took off Friday at noon and picked up six people and put them in the back of the truck on the way. On the way there I had to stop for gas. Gas was. 38 cents a gallon ! A bunch of cool trucks pulled in and said hey man you going to Woodstock and I said yeah, but I don't know the way. He said follow me. We ended up with 7 Vehicles following him driving through back roads and corn fields. We got there at about 5:30 in the afternoon and the concert was still going on. We walked up the road from a mile away and could see the fences already down. And as far as we could see where people. it's interesting me to this day at 72 years old, when I hear someone say, they talk about nasty hippies, or people who don't bathe, or young girls and young women, young boys and young men, who want to share and give to each other the joy of a moment. Or that this type of people do drugs. and I remembered back to being in Vietnam seeing pictures of young people handing out flowers and walking, stating they stood for peace, the college campuses young men were burning their draft card because High School boys and college men were being marched off to be slaughtered. if you'll remember the establishment already murdered Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, Medgar Evers, and the Freedom Writers. Young people who were protesting and demonstrating the way African-Americans were treated. African Americans were still being hung clear up until 1964. And several thousands in our own country for war. anybody remember Kent State. The National Guard were given live bullets to use against the people( American youth ) standing up on college campuses and saying please, no more war ! Anybody remember when Nixon got elected. He helped 28,000 Americans die, but that was accepted. but a bunch of kids got together for music. they brought tents and sleeping bags and food and shared. But the promoters didn't know how strong the Gathering was to become. So that was 300,000. And I remember walking back into the woods and there being whole Villages and Tents made out of plastic and lean-to to protect you from any rain and I remember sound equipment back in there picking up the sound of the concert a half a mile away. I remember people camping and cooking and sharing their food. I remember leaving my truck parked in a parking space along side of highway off the road and I never saw anybody blocking someone's driveway. I remember leaving my truck unlocked and when I got back Saturday. Everything was still in it nothing stolen. In fact I think I left my keys in the ignition. I gathered up my blankets, dried fruit, water, some of my beading supplies, trays. I went back down to the concert and set up a blanket and laid trays of beads out and my wife and I taught people how to string beads. And people would throw a dollar or 5 on the tray. Listening to the music. We were at the top of the hill, not way down the hill. Yes it was very crowded, by then and there probably was 500,000 Plus. I want you to look at history and look back. Remember all the Straits over 40 years old were chronic alcoholics and pill freaks. Remember the mob was dealing speed and other harmful drugs. Remember the government lying to us about how dangerous Cannabis sativa was. Cannabis indicas. the true names that they relabeled marijuana. Because marijuana was the Spanish name for the Wildwood flower that people smoke from Hispanic cultures. Remember we were vilifying Hispanics and other cultures even then and don't forget that little peacekeeping mission in Vietnam Laos, Cambodia and Thailand 1.8 million people were slaughtered, genocide, buy our military. your tax dollars at work. and if you didn't notice an uprising in America of people speaking about peace and no more war had to be broken apart one way or another. drug laws were strictly enforced people went to prison for 20 years for one marijuana cigarette. Other drugs started flooding the market like crazy and cheap. because you could become addicted to them or die... and after numerous other concerts that ended 10 times worse. And after our country led the war on until 1974. we don't look back and say what's wrong with our government or the military system, or the school system who doesn't educate, and our food industry who puts poison oil and chemicals in our food, and corporations who make multi failed products and get away with it, and pharmaceutical companies who poisoned the elderly, and doctors who prescribe pills constantly, and everybody says don't do dangerous marijuana. so here we are with 30 more years of war from that Woodstock event. and I'm sure it was all those little Christian hippies who said let's have children and send them off to kill for Christ. or be killed. and when I read and see truly propaganda. It's time to speak up and say enough is enough. and yes it did rain for several hours one day. And yes people hurt their feet because there were broken glass bottles around. And yes some girls and boys probably did have illicit sex. And yes there was a lack of water. And sometimes there was outhouses, full, por-ta-lets. but sorry for the propaganda and the illusionists. The music was phenomenal. And that many people who got along was amazing. My wife and I and my sister-in-law stayed there until Monday morning at 11 and looked at over a sea of blankets, broken tents things that people just decided weren't important anymore and yes muddy so what. That same week how many Young America Men were deep in the jungle being sprayed with agent orange all around them and being gunned down by an enemy that they never had an issue with. get your visions straight, and your facts! don't eat the brown acid... I know, I took 3 at one time. you straights, keep swallowing the blue pill. ha.!thanks. great memories still. love, dance, forgive.
