It was a very enjoyable movie and a nice way to conclude 11 years of MCU movies, with really good, emotional send offs for Iron Man and Captain America.
However I didn't enjoy it as much as I would have hoped for a couple of reasons:
- DESTROYING THOR AND HULKS CHARACTERS
This was a massive disappointment. Thor is my favourite character and from going from Ragnarok/Infinity War Thor to fat, drunk, underpowered Thor was ridiculous. He's funny and it's understandable at the beginning as Hemsworth does such a good job, but you're waiting for the moment for it to click for him and for him to go back to being the Thor he previously was, but this never really happens. After improving him with each marvel movie, he goes back 10 steps in this.
After what happened to Hulk in Infinity War you think he'll go on a journey within himself and finally unleash the raging hulk everyone wants to see and have round 2 with Thanos. He never does and Hulk is pathetic the whole movie. We wanted the 2008 or Avengers Assemble Hulk.
I can see why they would do this with both characters, especially Thor as he almost killed Thanos with a complete gauntlet, so a full power Thor vs Thanos with no stones wouldn't be much of a fight, especially with the help of Cap and Iron Man. Maybe Marvel are setting them up for future movies and putting them in a position to continue their stories, but if that is the case, Endgame was the completely wrong movie to do this.
- The pacing was very weird with a slow opening 45 minutes with a lot of emotion and character development. This is fine but then the pace went from 0 to 100 when they all went to get the different infinity stones and it all got a little confusing. Then it went up a notch again with the final battle which became a bit much when all of the old characters joined the battle and there were tons of main characters all now involved in the fight. It was enjoyable but the pacing made it feel like not a very well made movie.
