Marvelous flick that I somehow missed when it was released.

 

Means a lot of different things to a lot of people. And if it's quite alright. The Deer Hunter is right up there with “Remains of the day” and “Commando” as the shitest movie ever made. However I object to those people who say people didnt play Russian roulette in Vietnam. I was in Nam and we played it several times a day for years and years. Also we all screwed Meryl and shot deer. BILLY BIBBIT NO. Like These Movies 👠. First time seeing this movie. Absolutely brilliant. They just don't make films like they used to.

I enjoy the mood of this but ultimately, the lack of a plot sort of bothered me. He must have been on the brink from the start of the film because that was a quick descent into violence. Just kill them to make a point? I mean, yeah, at least because of Iris' youth. Great video ones agen. More hard work for the next generation of filmmakers. What a terrible trailer for such a great movie. Am I the only one to notice these two great scenes. I wonder what its called, if only they tell you the dam name of the movie.

@essentails1 i dunno i think its some war movie called The Moose Hunter or something. What a slew of legends on the stage at the end to greet the Duke reminds me of Ted Williams being greeted on the field by the MLB All-Stars at that game years ago. Overwhelming. I love this movie, but it depresses me every time I see it. One of my all time favourite films. Watching this clip and thinking Cadet Bone Spurs, who dodged the Vietnam draft, is about to start World War 3.

The Russian Roulette sequences the director wanted the viewers to feel the pains of war. He wanted to strike panic in the minds of the viewers. Also it reveals a truth about Vietnam, that it was not only about men being shot and killed and the only injuries were the means of pain and suffering. Many of the troops suffered mental injuries that effected the rest of their life's. This is shown in those scenes.
the begging Mike was prepared for everything. He took responsibility for his actions and always had a plan. He is a strong willed character who takes everything with him to the grave. He shows these traits in Vietnam, being the one to come out on top. Nick is less prepared for the future compared to Mike and goes with the flow. During Vietnam he cracks and shows that he is mentally unable to stand the memories of his past. Steve had the most to loose and the most pressure on his shoulder due to the fact he has a family at home. He cracks and cannot return to his family due to shame.
#3. He sets up stages for the game and also provides people willing to compete. He also bets money on them. He symbolizes the pushing force that brought young boys from America to Vietnam to fight and die for their country. As the French man did with Nick.
#4. Mike goes back to find Nick because he is the only one that he can relate to. He feels guilty that he has left Nick in Vietnam after that conversation they had before they left for Vietnam, Nick told Mike not to leave him their. leave him their.
I need all the credit i can get so i added my opinion on most of the questions asked.

One of the most beautiful movies ever made. It kills me to see Duke like this. He has been and will forever be the best in my opinion. I wanna hold you so much. I watched this film a couple of years back, as I was into war films, and let me just say, that all you just described is one of the reasons why The Deer Hunter won an Oscar for Best Picture, and Christopher Walken getting Oscar for Best Supporting Actor and for good reason. This is one of the few realistic war films that captures the intensity and horrors of war, along with Platoon & Saving Private Ryan.

This has been my favorite movie for the past 15 plus years. This movie shows me just how important friendship is in life & how important a human beings life is. Its just a really great movie. RIP genious. They don't take any guns with them after the escape which is most unreal being behind enemy lines. When Russian Roulette goes terribly wrong. When Hollywood had talent, when the Oscars recognized that talent, and now, nothing but memories of an era that is gone forever.

Amazing movie.
