I think it is great that such obscure software is being preserved. The number of educational programs written for the Apple II is nothing short of staggering, and sadly I suspect a huge percentage of it is lost forever. There is a snippet-view scan of TESS: The Educational Software Selector (1991) up on Google Books if you want to see the kind of programs that were in circulation. On a similar note, the Ontario Ministry of Education had a computer system built for their schools in 1984 rather than buy Apple IIs like so many American schools had done. It was a networked thin client personal computer called the UniSys/Burroughs ICON - "Bionic Beaver" that ran educational programs and games off of a server. All of the kids who grew up in the Ontario region used these computers in school to play games similar to the MECC software for Apple II. Then in 1994 the government decided to scrap the system. They offered the hardware and software to the Archives of Ontario who declined to take it, so all of the computers were rounded up and destroyed. I only ever heard about the ICON when somebody was asking about a game for it on r/tipofmyjoystick a couple months ago. I read a bunch of articles about the system and posted them here if anybody is interested. There is at least one surviving server and some collectors have tried to assemble software for it and get it running again.
