Miles is stuck in a dead-end job, still in love with his ex-girlfriend Nova. Unbeknownst to him, a gang called Skizm is running a deadly competition within his city in which complete strangers fight to the death for the entertainment of an online audience of millions. Miles soon finds himself caught up in the game and forced to fight in a battle to the death. Initially, Miles' lifetime of running from his problems pays off as he manages to elude his first opponent but when Nova is kidnapped, he must finally stop running and overcome his fears to fight for the girl he loves.

The premise of the movie is that a regular guy, defeated by life, happens to antagonise trolls on the wrong streaming service. As it so happens the gladiatorial show runner decides to throw our unwilling hero into the carnage to teach him a lesson. The movie relies heavily on violence and cheesy comedy. There are some interesting moments such as when the protagonist relays misconceptions about guns and injuries through his funny monologue as he discovers them himself. The problem however is that comedy was pushed too far in some situations. Nix's showdown with another key psychopath was too wacky. The main villain's lines again were too much. But overall it was a lighthearted fun ride.
The review that popped up first was complaining that the movie was unpleasantly preachy about how bad the internet is. I guess the trolls' favourite slur, showed in the movie, triggered" got some friendly fire. Afterwards he or she continued to just pin absurd things on this movie when it really doesn't take itself too serious. It doesn't pretend to know the real truth about violence in society or mock millennials. When a clearly unpleasant character makes an unsavoury remark about millennials it's not an actual criticism intended by the movie. If you believe otherwise then I question your intelligence. But most importantly it does not hold contempt towards gamers. The movie is quite the love letter to them.

Daniel Radcliffe plays Miles, a coding drone who spends his days glued to various devices. One night, he gets into an insult match on a site for Skizm, an underground fight club that selects random oddballs and criminals and pairs them against each other in mortal bouts. Spectators watch remotely, à la “The Truman Show. ” Although there is a system of scoring points, the violence is real. So it goes that Skizm’s boss (Ned Dennehy) and his thugs, offended by Miles’s online commentary, slam in his door and bolt guns to his hands, turning him into a participant. The surgical alterations complicate almost any task (other than shooting). Miles’s opponent: Nix (Samara Weaving), a merciless high-scorer. Will this dorky asthmatic, unable to tap on his phone (“Everything looks so HD, ” he remarks, finally paying attention to the world around him), summon his inner alpha from the virtual realm? The message — Miles’s nice-guy demeanor is both his weakness and his salvation — gets a little muddled. In a case of life imitating fiction, the writer-director, Jason Lei Howden, got into a Twitter skirmish shortly before the movie’s release. The distributor, Saban Films, said in a statement that it did not condone his “online behavior. ” Considering what happens to his protagonist, that is a slap on the wrist. Guns Akimbo Rated R.
