Rip Cimino and John Wayne. Two legends. Omg. the Russian roulette scene is soooooo hard to watch. It's painful to watch. Such good acting tho, all around. Excellent movie. A great study in human ideological human behavior. Ultimately, madness. Coppola was stoned here. He inadvertently ate one of Bill Graham's pot cookies. A noun is a word referring to a person, animal, place, thing, feeling or idea (e. g. man, dog, house). I adore this movie. I'm always glad of seeing someone analyzing it. I really like that dark sound When the Deer Hunter comes up. This movie made me think that we do not want to know about our future. We would be very grateful. The Deer Hunter is right up there with “Remains of the day” and “Commando” as the shitest movie ever made. However I object to those people who say people didnt play Russian roulette in Vietnam. I was in Nam and we played it several times a day for years and years. Also we all screwed Meryl and shot deer. Funny story. For a photo call a few moments later Jane Fonda was placed next to Wayne. She made a joke to him saying it was the only time she was ever to the right of John Wayne. Wayne roared with laughter. She said she was moved by the level of courage he showed as he was clearly in great pain but doing everything not to show it.

My Take: Many people have criticized the early part of the movie for being slow or uninteresting, but this portion of the movie was essential to set the background of the story with regard to the ethnic heritage of the principal characters (ironically Russian, given the Vietnam war) the closeness of their bond to one another, and also, to define the deer hunter metaphor graphically through the sequence of the actual hunt which serves as a foil to the later hunting sequence. This early part of the film, which so many disparage, resonated with me greatly as I am a first generation American who grew up in a European family environment - caught between the American ethos and the echoes of my ethnic ancestry - where weddings and other feasts reminded us of our historic past despite our fierce loyalty to our adopted country. This extra level of bonding in the film creates a familial relationship between the younger characters which is one of almost brotherhood and sisterhood as opposed to just residents of the same community. The Second Deer Hunt: The movie plays out like a novel, as it should, but many people who go to the cinema want only the action and not the underlying foundation upon which the writer has constructed his story. This is tragically unfortunate because they miss so much of what is being portrayed within the deeper context of the story. For instance: the scene where Michael climbs the mountain and confronts the deer the second time, after Vietnam, was one of the most powerful and intense scenes I have ever experienced in cinema; however, most of the viewers of the movie forgot it almost instantly though they will never forget the Russian roulette scenes, because they were unable to identify with what the writer was saying in that scene - and no, it's not entirely about Michael's new-found respect for life. This scene is open to vast interpretation. This is only my take, but I think I am close to the mark: Michael is a deer hunter. When hunting deer HE has the power and the deer is unable to defend himself other than by using his wits and the abilities that nature gave him. In Vietnam Michael is the deer and the Vietcong have the power. Michael must use HIS wits and the abilities nature gave HIM, but like the deer he is at an enormous disadvantage. He outmaneuvers his hunter and escapes. Michael has learned what it is like to be the deer. When the deer in this scene courageously stares him down the deer is symbolically asking him a question. The deer is asking if Michael has learned anything - asking him if after his experience in Vietnam he realizes that they are now brothers. In a sudden flash of intuition it all becomes clear to Michael. He lets the deer win this time to reclaim his own innocence and asks the deer if he is satisfied with the deal. OKAY? The deer calmly walks away. He must know. He shouts again. OKAAAAAAAY. and he receives Nature's echoed response. Okay.

In the movie the Deer Hunter mike goes back to Vietnam to get nick, because in the beginning of the movie nick made him promise that mike would never, no matter what, leave him over there. When mike returned back home everything he did reminded him of how he left his best friend over there, not knowing if he was OK was killing him. After visiting Steve in the wounded soldier home, Mike finds out where Nick is staying in Vietnam.I think these scene represents the friendships within the movie, helps the viewers connect with the characters and is shown how real this war was. At the end Mike goes over to get Nick but he wont go, so mike calls him out on a game of Russian Roulette. Mike really doesn't want to play he just wants his friend to stop it and come home. Nick does not and kills him self by losing. I think the last scene is the most important because it raps up their friendship with the quote from mike "One shot. when Mike says that in the beginning about killing the deer in one shot is kind of foreshadowing the whole movie. i did not like the ending i think Nick should of went home with mike, but the actual ending got the point across.

Cool how the orchestra played Cimino on with the song Ca't Take my Eyes Off You, an homage to the classic pool table scene. Like These Movies 👠. Ive seen this probably 5 times, the first in the late 70s. I think this may only be the second time for the uncut/made for t.v. version. It ranks in the top 10 movies of all time. My opinion of course. They should remake the movie and cast Rusty Cage as Travis. Why are you crying. The music is great. It`s a masterpiece, but the trailer sucks big time.
