I mean, what a star- studded cast- Jude Law, Kate Winslet, Marion Cotillard, Bryan Cranston, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Matt Damon! WOW. It was different than I expected but I definitely liked it a lot.
First off, the pace is crackling. The film is always moving, and I think that that is the right sort of pace this film requires, since it obviously is trying to dwelve in and out of many different characters' and their experiences. If anything, I think some of the editing didn't completely work at times, as well as some of the music choices. The film had a serious tone, but it still had a good B-movie vibe, even if some of it's points came across seriously. I enjoyed Kate Winslet and Jude law the most, and I think having this great cast works. In a way it helps us connect with them more from the start since they are all supporting characters, but in another way its like a fanboy's dream- We should get a lot of A-list actors in a horror film together!
Overall, I was very pleased with the film. It seems to be getting a lot of backlash for some reason now, but why? It ain't a masterpiece, but the way I see it it is a very entertaining, a serious yet kinda B-movie that manages to move fast and really hit some points that other 'virus' films don't. It is also very enjoyable in a one-note way that another film like The Mist can be, while also hitting points in more serious areas.
