Legolas was like you not about to talk to my brother like that. The movie is just as overrated as the book is. I like fantasy and read a lot of it, but Tolkien just doesn't "get there" with his stories, and neither does this movie. The movie itself is beautifully done, but without the backing of a solid story, the whole thing is just meaningless.
It might have been worth the watch if they had actually finished the story (i.e combined the three books) and removed 2½ hours of the fighting scenes. As of now, it just felt like a three hour wait before the end where almost nothing had happened.
Kudos for the nice environments and soundtrack, though.
