" — Diana Prince / Wonder Woman Wonder Woman 1984 (stylized as WW84) is an upcoming 2020 superhero film, the follow-up to 2017's Wonder Woman and the ninth installment in the DC Extended Universe. Gal Gadot returns as the titular character and Patty Jenkins once again takes the director's chair. Jenkins shares a story and writing credit with Geoff Johns with help from screenwriter David Callaham. Hans Zimmer returns to score the film after being absent from the franchise since Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The film takes place in the year 1984 and follows Diana of Themyscira/Wonder Woman as she fights against new perils including a former friend, Barbara Minerva/Cheetah ( Kristen Wiig), and shady businessman Maxwell Lord ( Pedro Pascal). She also finds out that her late lover Steve Trevor ( Chris Pine) somehow came back from the dead. The cast is rounded out with Connie Nielsen as Diana's mother Queen Hippolyta, and Robin Wright as her aunt Antiope. Natasha Rothwell, Ravi Patel, Gabriella Wilde, Kristoffer Polaha and Amr Waked have been cast in undisclosed roles. The film is currently set to be released worldwide on August 14, 2020 but is still subject to change. Previews: CCXP 2019 Trailer. Wonder Woman 1984 provides examples of: The '80s: The film takes place in, well, 1984. Diana is seen looking at a wall of TV screens that shows Dallas and National Lampoon's Vacation in the earliest released picture of the film, there have been "Silence is Death" posters (referring to the AIDS crisis) seen on set pictures, Barbara is rocking a huge pair of glasses and '80s Hair, and a fight takes place in The Mall (in which women are seen practicing aerobics with the expected garish outfits) so the film is really hitting the highlights of the decade. Additionally, the trailer uses a remix of "Blue Monday" (originally a song from the very influential 1980s band New Order). '80s Hair: Barbara Minerva and Maxwell Lord, in particular. The trailer shows that both have incredibly stereotypical haircuts from the era. Hers is poofy curls and his is teased so much that it looks like a bicycle helmet. Anti-Air: Sentry anti-air guns are seen firing at someone/something that's flying, in the trailer. Back from the Dead: Steve Trevor, despite perishing in the explosion of Ludendorff's superweapon plane in 1918 at the end of the first film. Not only that, he hasn't aged in 66 years. Battle Boomerang: Diana uses her tiara as an improvised boomerang to destroy a security camera at the mall in the trailer. Battle Couple: Much like in their first film, the trailer shows Diana and Steve whopping asses together. Bling of War: Diana is shown wearing a golden, winged suit of armor with an eagle-shaped helmet in the trailer. This armor is inspired by the one she first wore in Kingdom Come. Bullet Time: The trailer shows a fight scene in which Diana is Parrying Bullets in slow motion. Dances and Balls: The trailer shows the characters attending a gala. Deal with the Devil: Invoked in the first trailer, with Maxwell Lord's voice-over discussing having everything you always wanted, in return for him taking what he wants. Maxwell Lord: Life is good, but it could be better. And why shouldn't it be? All you need is to want it. Think about finally having everything you always wanted! [later in the trailer] Now, I take what I want in return! Death Course: An obstacle course between Amazons is held in an arena, as seen in the trailer. It includes running on pillars that stand several meters over a water pond. Disarm, Disassemble, Destroy: The trailer shows Diana neutralizing men armed with pistols in a mall, and breaking said pistols with her Super Strength. Then she grabs someone's pistol by the barrel, ejecting a bullet from its magazine and pushing it aside while it's in mid-air, all in slow motion. Distant Sequel: The first film mostly took place in 1918 (within a Present Day Framing Device). This one is set 66 years later, in 1984. Event Title: As the title suggests, the film takes place in 1984. Fish out of Temporal Water: Now it's Steve's turn to be confused by the modern era, Diana even having to tell him that a trash can is not a modern art piece in the trailer. Interquel: The film is set in 1984, and thus takes place between the first Wonder Woman film (which was set in 1918) and the much earlier released Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (which was Diana's first cinematic appearance, and was set in 2015). The Mall: Diana steps in to stop an attack on a mall in the trailer. Market-Based Title: The film is being marketed in China as Wonder Woman 2 instead of Wonder Woman 1984. Likely due to its similarity to the famous novel which is banned there outside of academic contexts. Mistaken for Exhibit: In the trailer, Steve looks at a trash can as if it's a work of art for a moment since Diana told him the place they walk at is "all art"... then she has to tell him what it really is. Mythology Gag: Has its own page. Oddly Named Sequel 2: Electric Boogaloo: The film is titled after the year in which it takes place and is not called Wonder Woman 2 with some sort of subtitle which is the norm for franchise films. According to Jenkins, this is because they're going for something more like the James Bond or Indiana Jones series where it's not necessarily beholden to what happened in the other installments so she doesn't see it as being a sequel, even though it technically is a Distant Sequel (and Steve's return from the dead obviously impacts the plot). However, Wonder Woman 2 is being used as the title in at least the Chinese market. Parrying Bullets: Diana is seen blocking bullets with her bracers in the trailer. Psychotic Smirk: Maxwell Lord smirks at one point in the trailer, to underline that he's up to no good. Ride the Lightning: Diana is seen using her Lasso of Truth to swing in the sky using lightning bolts to hook the Lasso on, in the trailer. Swapped Roles: The first film features a world-wry Steve guiding a literally out of place Diana on the life outside Themyscira. The trailer shows the now adjusted Diana guiding Steve on how things are since his return. Time-Shifted Actor: Child actress Lilly Aspell returns as the younger version of Diana, seen in the trailer running alongside the other Amazons on Themyscira. Tragic Keepsake: Diana still has the watch of her long dead love, Steve Trevor, and a photo of him, as seen in the trailer. She also went to his family's ranch and had a photo of herself taken there. Whip It Good: Diana makes ample use of her Lasso of Truth as a combat whip once again, as seen in the trailer. The White House: Diana and Steve Trevor in the middle of a fight in the White House in the trailer.

Wonder woman 1984 wiki. Forget the invisible-jet-flying Wonder Woman from the delightfully cheesy SuperFriends cartoon. Fans met an entirely new heroine in the 2017 blockbuster feature simply called Wonder Woman. We've been waiting for the sequel almost since walking out of the theater and will collect news and views about it here. The basics: It's called Wonder Woman 1984, and filming finished up last December. (Read: Wonder Woman 1984 en español. ) The latest The first trailer was released in early December 2019 at the CCXP comic expo in Brazil. It hints at a friendship between Gal Gadot's Diana Prince and Kristen Wiig's Barbara Minerva, an archaeologist who channels an ancient goddess known as Cheetah. (Cheetah's a known WW villain, so this friendship is doomed. ) Spoiler alert: The trailer also reveals that yes, Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) is back. He sacrificed himself in the first film, so we're not sure how this works out, but it's a good decision plot-wise, even if it doesn't make sense continuity-wise. The basics Wonder Woman was the third-highest-grossing movie of 2017, behind only Star Wars: The Last Jedi and the live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast. Fans worried at first about whether Jenkins would return for the sequel, but she signed on in September 2017. Variety reported that Jenkins would earn around $8 million to direct, produce and work on the script, which would make her the highest-paid female director of all time. The sequel's title is Wonder Woman 1984, so obviously, it's set in the neon-splashed Reagan Era. Two photos released in 2018 show Diana marveling at some very 1980s TV screens (J. R. Ewing! ) and Steve Trevor getting his shopping mall on. At Comic-Con 2018, attendees were treated to some new footage. You can't stop Wonder Woman. She's coming back for a sequel. Warner Bros. Release date, production info Wonder Woman 1984 is now scheduled for a June 5, 2020, release, moved back from its original December 2019 release date to avoid competing with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Jenkins wrote the script with Geoff Johns, president and chief creative officer of DC Comics, and screenwriter Dave Callaham. Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer will score the film. Zimmer originally composed Wonder Woman's theme song for her film debut in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016. Gadot noted on Dec. 23, 2018 that she had filmed in "four very different locations in three countries. " According to North Wales Live, the film shot some scenes at an iconic waterfall in Snowdonia, a Welsh national park. We can imagine WW battling a baddie in front of (or under? ) a rushing waterfall, can't you? Cast: Who's who? Returning characters Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman Chris Pine as Steve Trevor Robin Wright as General Antiope Connie Nielsen as Hippolyta How is Steve back?!?? Warner Bros. Pictures New faces Kristen Wiig as supervillain Cheetah Pedro Pascal, as villain Maxwell Lord Soundarya Sharma, in an unknown role Plot news, rumors and theories Don't be a Cheetah! Cheetah has long been a nemesis of Wonder Woman, with four different incarnations since her 1943 debut. (In 2001, a man briefly took on the title of Cheetah, but the other three have been women. ) Early Cheetahs were just women in costumes, but more recent versions morph into a human-cheetah hybrid and have enhanced strength and agility, plus deadly claws and fangs. Thanks to a photo Jenkins shared in late June 2018, Wiig's version of Cheetah was revealed as archaeologist Barbara Minerva, but there's also no need for the film to stick closely to any comics story. Not a sequel: Producer Charles Roven told Vulture director Jenkins is "determined that this movie should be the next iteration of Wonder Woman but not a sequel. " He notes the movie is set in a completely different time frame and tells a very different story than the original. Maybe that explains how Steve Trevor returns -- it's a new iteration where he didn't die. To the Max In October 2019, director Patty Jenkins confirmed that Pedro Pascal will play villain Maxwell Lord. In the Wonder Woman comics, Lord is a human businessman who can control others' minds. Jenkins and Pascal worked together on the 2015 TV movie Exposed. Game of Thrones fans will know Pascal for his role as dashing but doomed Oberyn Martell. He's seen in the trailer as an infomercial king. Totally awesome '80s: The film is set in 1984, the year of the Los Angeles Olympics. To get into the 1980s spirit, the cast also posed for a photo that mimics the poster for John Hughes' 1985 hit The Breakfast Club. Pining for Pine: Yes, Chris Pine, who played Steve Trevor in the first film, is back, despite apparently dying in the first film. But anything goes in comic resurrections (just ask thawed-out Captain America over at Marvel). And now that he's shown up in the first trailer, we're left to wonder exactly how he makes his return. Now playing: Watch this: Top 5 ways 'Wonder Woman' saved the DC movie universe 3:02 Here comes the general: Robin Wright will once again play General Antiope in the sequel. She's seen in the trailer. Spoiler: Like Trevor, the general sacrificed herself for Diana in the first film, but who can blame Patty Jenkins for wanting the character back? Connie Nielsen is also back as Hippolyta. Seventies superstar: Until Gadot came along, the iconic onscreen Wonder Woman was Lynda Carter, who starred in the 1970s television series. Could Carter make a cameo appearance in the sequel? In early 2018, Jenkins was asked about that. "We'll see, " she told Entertainment Tonight's Mary Hart. "Lynda is one of the dearest people to us, has been a great mentor and dear friend. And we actually desperately tried to get her in the first one and we had the scheduling that couldn't work, so she's always been a part of our Wonder Woman family. We won't say anything yet, but we certainly -- there's no lack of trying. " This piece was originally posted May 9, 2018, and is updated as new details come out.
