Synopsis: In Gladiator, victorious general Maximus Decimus Meridias has been named keeper of Rome and its empire by dying emperor Marcus Aurelius, so that rule might pass from the Caesars back to the people and Senate. Escaping an ordered execution, Maximus hurries back to his home in Spain, too late to save his wife and son from the same order. Taken into slavery and trained as a gladiator by Proximo, Maximus lives only that he might someday take his revenge and fulfill the dying wish of his emperor. The time soon comes when Proximo's troupe is called to Rome to participate in a marathon of gladiator games held at the behest of the new emperor, Commodus. Once in Rome, Maximus wastes no time in making his presence known, and is soon involved in a plot to overthrow the emperor with his former-love Lucilla, Commodus' sister, after whom he lusts, and also the widowed mother of Lucius, heir to the empire after his uncle, and democratic-minded senator, Gracchus

This is still my number one after 1000+ films watched (alongside the LOTR trilogy. It simply has it all and is close to perfection in all the areas that count.
A solid revenge tale, with a larger than life hero to root for and a despicable villain to hate. Excellent pacing - at two and a half hours, it never begins to drag. Phenomenal acting across the board. A great script full of memorable quotes and rousing speeches (ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED. One of the greatest scores from one of the best film composers. Plenty of action, from the opening battle to the smaller scale (yet equally intense) gladiatorial combat. And possibly my favourite 10 minutes of any film to end it all.
10/10.

Gladiator free online watch. Gladiator is awesome! In fact I watched it 3 times already. The movie had impressive plot. It gave a wide range of emotion from heightened action scenes to moving sorrows of dead loved ones. I could only empathize Maximus! The visuals of the film were just stunning. With the recreation of Rome, I felt I was there. The fighting scenes were just stylish removing the gore in a rather violent and brutal scenes as demanded for by the gladiators. And of course the costumes were elaborate. Commodus's costume enforced his majestic appeal concealing his weak character as an emperor. Lucilla was as fashionable as ever with Eastern influences depicted in the film showing a vast Roman Empire. For sure Russell Crowe will be remembered forever in this film particularly in the Philippines and who knows a nomination for the Oscar (again. and to Ridley Scott, make more films something like this. Kudos to you.
