I haven't read the books, and have no intention of reading them, so didn't know what to expect. Mostly thought this was just for kids or nerds. In some respects, it is, but it turns out it had a decent plot, is well-directed and well acted.

Aside from that the plot and storyline helped to build up the other movies so essentially it is important. I highly recommend seeing this movie. It hooks you into the whole Harry Potter thing and from there on out, you'll want to watch it over and over again.
