Yoshiko's Hamburger Steak

2015.06.24 06:00

My mother Yoshiko used to make this one for us and we loved it. I thought this was a dish from other country, but I have never seen one like this. Japanese must have invented this to mimic real stake long time ago. This is such a popular food in Japan, and a great memory for me.

Prep time 25min
Ingredients Serves 2

200g ground beef

100g ground pork

1/2 onion

1 egg

100ml bread crumbs

1/2 tsp salt

a pinch of Nutmeg

Black pepper to taste

1 tsp olive oil

150ml cup red wine

2 tbsp tomato ketchup

1 tbs worcestershire sauce

1 tsp honey

Directions

1. Mince the onion and microwave for 2 minutes.

2. In a bowl, place the ground beef, ground pork, onion, bread crumbs and egg. Add the salt, nutmeg, pepper, and knead well by hand.

3. Divide the mixture in half. Shape each half between your palms into a patty, 1.5 cm thick.

4. Put some oil in a heated frying pan, cook one side for 2 minutes over medium heat. Then flip and decrease the heat to low. Cover and cook with natural steam for 13 minutes.

5. For the sauce, add the tomato ketchup, honey, worcestershire sauce

, and red wine into a frying pan. Flip the patties and dress with the sauce.

6. Arrange each of them onto a plate, and garnish with boiled string bean.
