'The animals in the stories,' wrote A.A.MIlne, 'came for the most part from the nursery...Shepard drew them, as one might say, from the living model. They were what they are for anyone to see; I described rather than invented them.

A study of Christopher Robin Milne's teddy-bear, Winnie-the-pooh. However, the bear who appears in the final illustrations was actually modelled on 'Growler' a teddy-bear belonging to Graham Shepard, the artist's son.

クリストファー・ロビン・ミルンのテディベアの習作であるウイニー・ザ・プー。しかし、最終決定の図案で使用されたのは、実は’グローラー’というテディベアで、画家のグラハム・　シェパードの息子の物だった。

There are no preliminary studies of Owl, but this sketch was made for Chapter5 of The House at Pooh Corner.

All the original toys ( with the exception of Roo who got himself lost somewhere in Sussex) are now resident in the New York office of Milne's american publishers , E.P. Dutton & co.

'Only Rabbit and Owl' wrote A.A.MIlne, 'were my own unaided work. ' Shepard made this study from an exhibit in the British Museum (Natural History).

While preparing his illustrations, Ernest Shepard visited A.A. Milne at his home in Sussex, and together they walked in the Ashdown Forest, 'where I mada sketches of the pine trees and the spots that figured in his stories. 

アーネスト・シェパードは、作品を用意している間、サセックスにあるミルンの自宅を訪ね、一緒にアッシュタウンの森を歩いた。「そこで私は、松の木や、作品の中に登場する箇所を描写したんだ。」

訳してみて：イギリスでのお土産本。ラフなデッサンやスケッチには、完成品には見られない、途中経過ならではの作者の息吹や熱量が感じられるようで、私は好きだ。

日常会話を訳すのは、非常に難しいと思う。留学中も、授業中の教授による英語や、TV、ラジオなどマスメディアから流れる流暢なアナウンサーによるスタンダードの英語よりも、寮のキッチンで何気なく会話するネイティブの生徒達との会話や、クラス内でのディスカッションなど、本当に何気ない会話がついてゆけず、苦労した思い出が強い。

私は、特に文法が苦手なので、特に、こういうインタビューや会話形式の英訳には注意しなければならないと思った。
