This was a really enjoyable film to watch. A thriller but also humorous. Kept us at the edge of our seats.

The difference between this horror movie and about 99% of the others is the tongue in cheek humor and the great actors who somehow manage to make you laugh in the midst of full on gore. There is also a bit of a cautionary tale mixed into this one with the children involved in the mayhem that engulfs this movie. It does NOT glorify the gore, nor does it completely ignore the wrong-headedness of what is going on. But somehow, it manages to be, to me, way more entertaining than the Chuckie movies or the Saw movies which seem to be steeped in gore without conscience. It definitely makes fun of rich people, something I have absolutely no problem with since they do encompass our Congress and run the world in reality with little regard to the middle class, the poor, or the elderly, etc.
And perhaps that is why there is a lot of downrating going on. I guess a lot of people want their gore without any tugs on their guilty consciences! The actors were all superb, especially the leading lady, Samara Weaving and Andie MacDowell. I was pleasingly surprised at the humor and horror mixed just right by Ms. MacDowell in this very different roll for her.
The script was tight and excellent. The director did an great job getting just the right mix of humor and evil out of this group. It was an oddly engrossing film for the genre. I actually like horror movies, but rarely would rate one above 6 stars because they just aren't that good. This one is the exception. If you have a weak stomach for blood, definitely not for you. But if you enjoy a good horror film with great acting, directing, special effects, and a story that will not leave you wishing you had watched a Hallmark Christmas movie instead, this one is for you! One of the best horror films I have seen. If it gets the momentum from movie watchers, I see this one becoming a classic in the years to come! Definitely recommended.
