It's not everyday I write reviews. But this one is so nice that I had to. Frankly, I didn't had much expectation with the movie to start with. But it was only later that I found out that I was wrong.
The movie is not a typical horror film, where all they have is intense bgm and sudden appearance of ghosts on screen. Instead, the story is very well written and executed very well by the cast and director, producers. Acting by Tripti Dimri, is really amazing. Her subtle smile was enough to attract towards her character. All others did well too.
They have successfully shown about the problems with the ill practices that were going on in earlier times.
In all, definitely a very good watch and I would love to see more such films where content is given weightage than adding typical songs and dancing. If you liked Tummbad. You'll appreciate this one too. Here, I've given 7 only because I'm very conservative towards giving scores. Noone gets 10 and only the best of the best get 9. So 7, I'm telling you is very good.

Okay not a masterpiece but the point this movie wanted to make is a good enough reason to watch it. Bulbbul is not really a horror movie and there is little to no suspense too because you can mostly predict the storyline. There was some shabby direction in parts but the cinematography is more or less commendable. The factual innacuracies about the time period (Yes, it's set in the late 19th century Bengal) are not big enough to be significant.
I cannot help but be disappointed about how well this could've been made because the idea behind it is actually brilliant. The cast does more or less a good job, though I felt like Dimri's casting is a bit off as she is far from what you'd call a quintessential bong beauty.
Is it worth a watch? Yes. Are you going to be blown away? No. My rating would be a biased 7 because of the references to Tagore and Ray.

A brilliant performance by caste, incredible story line and screenplay. I recommend to all watch it.
